I bought mine brand new $200.00 free shipping from Knox lumber. That was 28 years ago plus.

I would start off at less than 50 cents on the dollar...... It's hard to say on condition, and number of hours run....

Candidly, I bought the 3.7hp Kobalt 60 gallon air compressor at Lowes a few years back for $500...... Hooked up a cord and making air.....

While I have bought a lot of items used, remember the potential for wear and tear and maintenance.....

Not sure of the model number but I have an 80 gallon, 5 hp CH pro model bought in 94. Parts are obsolete.

here is a thread on one that is a 1994 model. https://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=360988

IMHO-

Con's:
age
tank is out of certification and condition will depend on how it has been cared for
parts are harder to come by than something new
unknown condition on rings and bearings etc..
pita to move

Pro's:
inexpensive - I'd start at $160. Would not go over $200 -$225 regardless. These type things come up for sale all the time on Craigslist, and local auctions due to their age. The last compressor I bought needed a motor because it had been run hot. I had to replace the reeds because they were covered in carbon from the oil getting hot - the prior owner never changed the air filter and it was in a wood shop.

That is really a 2hp pump put onto a tank that is a bit too big for it. If it was well treated and not run into the ground trying to make it do the work of a real 5hp compressor it is probably a decent machine, but this is the very definition of a cheater 5hp compressor.

CH VT series pumps have probably provided more compressed air for homeowners than all other machines combined, and were packaged and sold under dozens of different brand names. They are very reliable and easily fixed when necessary, but should not be overworked with sanders and cut off tools and such. They absolutely will not keep up.

Bid low, if you don't get this one there will be another one come along shortly.
If you keep missing out, raise your next bid a little.

a friend has one. they are not true 5hp
it has served him well, but it is noisy because they have the rpm of the pump high to get cfm's .
I have a similar vintage horizontal CH compressor, the pump & motor are identical, but his has a larger drive pulley . mine is way quieter than his , but less cfm and less HP.
I would offer $200 and see what he says , providing it runs and the tank looks respectable

That is a better solution. Used compressors are always a **** shoot. Many items pre-2008 recession no longer have parts available due to all the corporate restructuring that went on, and the off-shoring of products.

I don't mind used belt-drive compressors at all. Base the value on motor nameplate horsepower and cfm at full pressure. 2 to 5hp 240V machines tend to be good bang for buck.

They are essentially 3 discrete pieces (tank, pump, motor), fairly generic, with little dependence on each other. You don't need to stay within a brand to replace one major component.
