I glanced at one while I was at HF the other day. Just because it says U.S General on the front doesn't mean it was made in the U.S. There's alot of things I could point out but if you read this thread you'll get a crash course in air compressor selection.

After doing a ton of research and shopping all over the country, this is what I bought the other day.

After much debating I decided 2-stage was not necessary for my needs. I/R is one of the top compressor manufactuers in the country with very high quality products. And for $668, I couldn't go wrong!

Hi Rayjay, looks really good.
What kind of wire is running inside those conduits? And that light is on when the motor is on, or just the Disconnect switch in general?

And how is the wire meter hooked up, should it be coming out of the pressure switch unit on the switched terminals? yours looks like tapped to the motor?

Onemean, I did not look at HF 5 hp but their 7.5hp at least has a Baldor motor it turns at ,I think at 3400 rpm (mine at 1700rpm). Cannot speak to quality of the pump either.

Rayjay, nice set up. Thats exactly what I'm doing now, 3/4 main with 1/2 down pipes.
How did you anchor the compressor to the floor. is that rubber under each foot with all thread?
Thanks Al.......

i ran # 8 wire for the whole system /30 amp 220 breaker

the light is on the disconnect side of the switch , it lets me know when i have power on the compressor

(its just a reminder to turn it off for the night, getting up at 3 am to turn air compressor off is a pain in the ***...lol )

the hour meter 110v ac is hooked up to one leg of the motor which is the same wires as the pressure switch, there is just no room to hook up anything in the pressure switch :shocking:

Hi RayJay, I mean to ask if you ran Romex, the individual stranded wires or (THNN) inside?

Since it is 110V for the hour meter do you use neutral for the hour meter to complete the circuit or the ground? Techically, you are not supposed to use ground to complete circuits.

# 8 stranded 3 wire black ,red, green using green as the common and your just using the common and one 110 leg to run meter if your really want to get technical you can run a relay between hour meter and supply but why :headscrat your not powering the meter with the 110 volts just turning it on.
