I've seen a few stand-up deep freeze units on craigslist for like $50 or so and was thinking. If you drilled a hole in each side of one of those stand-up freezers for th einlet and outlet, then make your "radiator" like some have made on their walls, but just compacted it a bit and put it in the freezer and then sealed it up with some foam sealant (at the inlet and outlet, I know you'd have to solder the pipe! ), would that do any good? I know the copper tubing going in and out would conduct some of that cold out of the unit and you'd have to be careful to frequently drain the air, but I figured I could get the freezer for about $50 and maybe about $100 or so of copper pipe and whip up a dryer?

If it WOULD work, would it be that much more beneficial than the cheapie that HF sells for under $300 with the coupon?

Just food for thought. thanks!

you'd be better off usuing a refrigerator. how would you keep the condensate from freezing in a freezer?

That's why I was saying you'd have to drain the lines regularly. Although, I didn't think about the fact that it would never fully drain and always leave a little behind.

You could just wrap the copper freon lines around the copper airlines, hot side after cold. No need for the box. That is basically how refrigerated driers work. Buying one would seem easier and cheaper to me though. There has to be a lot of sizing of pump etc. involved. No idea if a freezer would have enough kick to cool the air down.

In the box would probably work though if you could get enough line in your freezer. Run your incoming through the top, bring it over and down enough times and out the bottom water would drain. Of course you would have an awfully large wasted space in your garage.

Uhh, wont work. It's a refrigerated dryer, not freezer, and the innerds are not the same as a household uit. The HF unit actually looks OK, I checked my local.

Damn you guys at cheap at times. :bounce:
