Any of you guys use trans fluid? My Mac guy said today its the best oil to use due to the cleaners and what not. Any thoughts?

I use regular old air tool oil, but I'll run an air tool cleaner through them all about once a year or so.

ATF is probably very good, but it sure smells awful.

Marvel air tool oil, and deep creep once in awhile for cleaning. I oil my tools after EVERY job I use them on. The other guys at work hate that my tools spray them with oil whenever they borrow them. Then I ask them why they are using mine.............."uh mine quit working" is the usual response. Hmmmmmmmm I wonder why.

At work I use some sort of Ingersoll Rand air oil. The "company" bought a **** load of it, and it's lasting forever. Heh! It's free, you know?!?!?
At home, I just use WD-40, chain n' cable lube, or whatever I find that has a straw.
Never thought about using Marvel Mystery Oil -- glad I read this thread!
I *think* I'll give that a whirl... works in everything else, so why not?

ATF will swell or rott some types of rubber. The o-rings and lip seals in automatic transmissions are of a special type of rubber made to be compatable with ATF. It might be a crapshoot on the seals and gaskets in your air tools. I've heard of people doing this but Air tool oil is cheap.......repair parts aint'.

I have a little bottle of Harbor Freight's air tool oil... oddly, it's made in USA.
If it is just ATF, why is it so mysterious?
I have a bottle of Lucas air tool oil.

I've had the same bottles for years: Snap-On, CH, and a couple of bottles of some other brand. Maybe it's time to consolidate them into one bottle...
I oil mine liberally before use. The tools that don't get used much, like the air hammers and riveter, get a good oiling every year or so.

I should add that i have used ATF for years and have never worn out a pneumatic or had any other problems. I picked up a re-branded Aircat yesterday and i had asked if it was a sealed unit/oil bath or if i had to grease it. He confirmed that it was an oil bath unit and to oil the inlet with ATF once a day. Unbeknown to him i already used ATF as oil about %90 of the time.

My dad used ATF since he started turning wrenches and never had a problem. I mix alittle MMO with ATF and use that. Only because the cheap HF framing nailer I have will stick if you only use ATF.
As a tool dealer, I was told that you should use a good air tool oil ( I sell marvel) and oil all your tools at the end of the day, plug them in and give them a quick squeeze to distribute the oil in the tool, and then let it sit overnight. That allows the oil to lubricate and clean. I know that PB makes an air tool cleaner that I have had good luck with. But I tell most of my customers to run a little ATF through a couple times a month. Thats just my 2 cents.

I oil my tools 'til smoke (oil mist) is blowinging out the exhaust, when I pull the trigger. LoL!
Doesn't seem to hurt anything... but, I don't know if it's helping things either.

I put 2-3 drops in each time I get 'em out of the toolbox (or before I put 'em away, if I forgot before I started).
We've started using the PB stuff in our air grinders at work and have had excellent luck with them lasting longer. They grind 8 hours a day and oil them before the start of the shift and after break.

For one thing, air oil is supposed to be non-detergent.
