Am I doing it wrong?

Kicking up some dust in the shop this afternoon.

Wearing a mask fogs up my glasses.

How can they fog up my glasses if they aren’t letting air in and out around the edges?

I bent the nose to fit tight, but my glasses still fog up and I got dusty boogers in my nose.

Do these things work at all?

Or do they just give you a false sense of protection?

Use a respirator. I use a 3m half face respirator with the disposable filters of my choice. Those crappy dust masks are useless.

The way to check for a good seal with these is put your hand over the exhaust port and blow. You’ll see if it is adjusted correctly and air tight. No glass fogging too. Lol

The mask material allows airflow. Warm breath will tend to move to the top of the mask due to physics. You could try adding a band of tape on the mask near the upper surface, close to your glasses. If that doesn’t work, move to a half face respirator or a supplied air full face one.

A drop of dishsoap on each lens, then wipe with a soft cloth.
Some masks (and respirators) fit better than others (depends on face shape).
Some have a metal band or wire to form to the shape of your nose.

Ever sanded drywall without a mask? Even a cheap ill fitting mask is better than nothing.

If you really want to do it right you would get fit tested for the correct respirator and it would not leak around the seal to your face. When fitted correctly it should not fog up your glasses, just Google fit testing.

Pull the glasses away from your face towards tip of your nose. It’s what I have to do when wearing a mask into a store and I’m not wearing contacts.

Sometimes I wear a 3m respirator during Cedar season here.. They definitely work.

Do you have any facial hair? If so, you're pretty much screwed with any mask and/or respirator.

If you're still getting dust in your nose, the mask doesn't fit your face properly or it's the wrong kind of mask.

Yeah I use OptiPlus anti fog wipes and they do work great. not a permanent thing but it should get you thru the day.

The dust masks with the exhalation port are better for not fogging up glasses imo than those without. Problem is right now I haven’t been able to buy any due to Covid.

Yup, respirator! I was cutting brick with an angle grinder dry yesterday and i had no issues with my glasses fogging up or nasty boogers afterward. Those cheap "masks" arent worth it.

Cedar season is when cedars are dropping pollen....Typically from November thru mid March.

A quality respirator should fit well and not allow air to easily escape like the cheaper masks.

We also get cedar (and sugar pine and douglas fir) season here - you can tell as all your vehicles go from awesome jewel tones to a flattish, yellowish hue of whatever color they are...

The surgical ones are useless for dust. The N95 come in three sizes and you should be able to get a good fit. I have and use a 3M half mask, I am very happy with it.
