Amazon Hyperikon 5000 LED T8 bulbs

Anybody have any personal experience with these. They've got great reviews and have been thinking about replacing the old fluorescent tubes.

Yes, I bought them. I love them. I got single ended ones and frosted. I left my ballasts and all wiring in place in case for some reason anyone wanted to go back to fluorescent tubes.

Can't say much about these particular bulbs, but I bought a lot of Hyperikon bulbs and lights over the years and was never disappointed. Definitely a good step up from the regular Chinese eBay items.

Bought some for a friends shop. He don't buy over the internet so I did it for him. He got the 8 foot single pin. He removed his ballasts and the rest was a piece of cake. Loves them. Came with sagging clips and new tombstones.

there awesome i replaced t12 8ft 2 bulb 4 fixtures with them about 2 yrs i was on the fence about switching i have 10ft x 20ft office with 8ft ceilings i got clear lenses. i have sign shop so colors need to look good my god my office is so bright i cant look up without being blinded lol. i had one bad out of the box messaged them had a new one in 2 days.

I've installed and re-wired about 40 fixtures with these bulbs. I like the 40,000k color better but they have been fantastic. rewiring is super easy and worth the power savings. I measured a 40% reduction in power usage from the 32w bulbs.

Couple things of note, they don't rotate, and they point down, fluorescent bulbs point in all directions so it's a bit different.

Horses, color is personal preference. Hyperikon comes in 30k, 40k, & 50k kelvin color temperatures. 30k kelvin is very "warm" and can seem very yellow, 50k is very "cool" and is sometimes referred to as bluish. Home Depot usually has decent displays with examples of the color differences.

I have done around 10 fixtures so far. Ripped out the ballasts, and never looked back. I solved the "sagging" situation with a long white wire tie. Instant on (no warm up). Assuming its not a "high bay" application, be sure to get the frosted for better light dispersion. I liked this solution so much, when adding more fixtures, I bought new fluorescent fixtures, and pulled out the ballasts, and used the LED bulbs.

I was going to need 28 bulbs to convert, I ordered 4 and converted one fixture. I liked it so I then ordered the 24 pack and did the rest. Have had them for 2 years now, really nice.

I'm confused, these are sold as direct replacements, why would you want to remove/bypass the ballast etc? I know several years ago you had to retrofit fluorescent lights in order to use the leds but not today. Are there any benefits to doing this?

You have 120 volts then you step it up with a ballast then down with whatever they use in the bulbs to lower it then to DC to light up a diode. Things are just a little simpler if you remove the ballast.

Also be careful if you have very high ceilings and your fixtures have reflectors behind the bulbs they will serve no purpose with the led bulbs.

It's a choice. They make one style that runs on the ballast and another that doesn't use the ballast.
If your ballasts are a compatible type, and are in good condition, then there's no reason to bypass them. It will cost you about 2 watts more per tube. If your ballasts are old, worn out, or of the wrong type, then it will likely be best to just bypass them.

I would bypass the ballasts simply because it's another point of failure for the light fixture.

LEDs are supposed to have an extremely long life as long as their driver circuitry lasts. I dont want to touch the fixture again if I don't have to. Not to mention the additional power draw from the ballast.

rewiring is extremely easy, I use the push in connectors since its such a low load per fixture.

The Costco LED 4' shop lights have great reviews, if that works for you. I bought a bunch for $20.00 each.
