I spend probably $5-8k at Amazon each year, but I don't think I've ever picked up any deals of value from Amazon on Black Friday, it'd be hard to go down from there.

The Walmart, Target and Best Buy near me all price match Amazon now. I just show them the Amazon price on my phone, and they match on the spot with no questions asked. And now that Amazon charges sales tax, I seldom buy from them anymore.

Do they check that it's actually sold by Amazon and not a 3rd party seller? I could go on my seller account and list a roll of toilet paper for 10 cents if you want.

Amazon has charged sales tax in my state for a couple years.

That does mean I order from them less than before, but I still order quite a bit.

They have tons of things local stores don't carry in stock, so getting Walmart to price match Amazon doesn't do me any good. Plus that would require a trip to Walmart.

Now that we have a baby, saving a trip to the store is a big convenience.

I'm interested to see what they offer on this Prime Day.

They price match Amazon. A third party seller is not Amazon.

Prime Day is a global shopping event, offering more deals than Black Friday, exclusively for Prime members. On Wednesday, July 15 new and existing members will be able to shop thousands of Lightning Deals, Deals of the Day, and will receive unlimited Free Two-Day Shipping. Members will find deals starting at midnight PST, with new deals starting throughout the day, as often as every ten minutes. Not a Prime member? Try Prime today and get immediate access to deals on July 15.

Prime members can find deals on products across categories including electronics, toys, video games, movies, clothing, patio, lawn and garden, sports and outdoor items and more. Members will enjoy deals on items perfect for summer adventures, their to-do list, family road trips, back to school supplies, and everyday essentials. Prime members can shop on any device, including smartphones and tablets and enjoy deals anytime, and anywhere.
Question for you guys...

I am a long time amazon/prime member and purchase more than I care to admit from them.

I don't know what these deals-of-the-day and lightening deals are as I've never used them. I always just go on amazon and order the things I need.

I've been putting items on my wish list in anticipation of the 15th and the possibility they might be on sale. My intent was to log onto amazon the morning of the 15th before work and purchase whatever on my list is on sale during the big day.

However, reading the above description I'm wonder if this is one of those things where you need to be on the computer all day to get the deals??

Will the so called deals of the day be the same all day long and listed at the get-go?

I don't have time to sit on the puter all day....

Thanks

Crumpled yellow paper for $600, but I won't lie about it in the description.

I only mentioned it because how many of these old lady Target cashiers even know what they are looking at if you ask for a price match

Amazon just started charging sales tax in ohio. I still buy from them because it saves me the time and energy of going to the store. My blu-ray player has been acting up it is about 10 years old. So I ordered a new one from my phone and it was on my door step on Sunday morning.

I will see what kind of deals they have on the 15'th

Media has been hyping it up as a big shopping day, but you could have just read about it directly from Amazon:

Those Lightning Deals are not only for a limited time, but also limit the number of times the deal can be claimed. If the deal is good enough, then it's like: "Now you see me, now you don't!"

Deal of the day items are supposed to be all day, but again think about how many people will start clicking away if the deal is good enough. If Amazon will have thousands of items, then I imagine they will be introducing new daily deals every ten minutes.

Just be sure to check The Three Camels before buying, from my experience quite a few "deals" on Amazon are actually higher priced than the normal price.

I'll probably check in a few times throughout the day but won't go nuts just because everything is on sale.

I agree, Amazon still seems to be the place i find what I am looking for, but when I didn't renew PRIME (mainly so I wouldn't spend so much), now they hold my order for like 4 days, then ship. They call it economy shipping, apparently so they can combine, but holding an order for 4 days then shipping for 2, takes a full week+, That is too long for me.

Won't be long now that everyone will be required to pay a monthly fee just to use Amazon. Ebay will follow, not that they don't already screw people with ridiculous fees as it is (sellers anyway..). This seems to be the way the IT industry is moving. Microsoft is moving to subscription base and lots of others are following.

Is there any other benefit to Prime other than the 2 day shipping? If that's all it is, I'll pass and take the free shipping. Every time I order on Amazon with free shipping, it usually arrives in 4 or 5 business days, 7 at most.

Well it's not that far off... Microsoft is already switching to subscription based. You have the option to buy Office as a 1-time purchase, but they make you search for it. https://products.office.com/en-us/compare-microsoft-office-products

That's just Office.. they've also been throwing out hints of monthly charges just for Windows in the future.

Amazon has been pushing this Prime thing hard. You can only expect that once they get a high membership rate, they'll start mandating it.

I'm not saying Prime *****. I'm sure a lot of people benefit from it. But if the future of Amazon ends up being a required membership, I'll shop elsewhere.

I use prime and it's great. My wife is a big book reader and loves movies. With prime she "borrows" books for free and saves a ton of money from buying either a e-edition or physical edition. Also she gets to watch unlimited shows and movies when nothing else is on tv. The only downside is that it is for only the account holders devices. I'm not into that stuff so it doesn't bother me. She can also share her prime with other people with an invite, unsure of how many since it's only her and i. Well worth it to me

There's a pretty big difference between selling goods and offering a service.

Despite having a pretty large subscriber base, ignoring 95% of your customer base would be a pretty stupid move.

Well I hope you're right, because I like shopping on Amazon, and I don't need anymore monthly bills lol

I tried shopping at Walmart, Target and Best Buy in my underwear. Not only did I have to get in the car and drive there, but they had the nerve to throw me out and tell me to never come back!

Amazon never did that to me.

This is my concern too. The one time I was foolish enough to try for a lightning deal it was gone within seemingly seconds (may have been minutes in reality). There are people w no life who just sit at the computer & watch the clock.

While there's no question I'm a consumer manipulated by many tactics, sitting, waiting, timing or scheduling my whole day around a narrow window in a mad race to HOPE I don't get beat out of a limited quantity is too far for me.

Sure, I wait for sales - even Zoro's flash sales - but even those are for a few hours, apply across the board, and they're not only offering 100 of Widget X.

Amazon prime has been a good thing. If they ever miss the shipping date, all you have to do is contact them about it and they will tack on a free month of Prime membership. I've done this multiple times and when they have issues, it is most likely because they hand off the delivery to the local post office.

I also make use of the unlimited photo storage, amazon music, and I rent books for free to my Kindle. I've watched maybe a movie or two on instant video.

Well if you need it today, good luck with Amazon, underwear or not.

Even with tax it's cheaper than driving to the store, discovering they are out of/don't carry something, waiting in line to checkout, etc. I can't seem to go shopping locally without still having to go to another store or online to find everything I need.

Plus with the video streaming it pretty much pays for itself there. Got rid of cable years ago.

Not sure if I will find anything on "Prime Day" though. If they do black friday like deals it will mostly be electronics, computer junk and kitchen items. Not sure if they will have anything I usually look for deals on.

Oh and the Office as a service model is getting common, but for different reasons than most people think. It forces people to maintain the latest version and not get ridiculously behind, which creates more of a support headache for the manufacturer. Business software has been combating this for years by raising support rates on old versions vs customers on the latest.

Thank you, that's what I suspected.
While I purchase a bunch of stuff from Amazon I don't spend a lot of time on the site. I just go in and buy the stuff I need and get out. Hmm, my sister on the other hand lives on her phone/tablet/internet. Maybe give her something productive to do and have her check continually for my items. :D
