two or three years ago, i took advantage of an offer amazon was making where if you agreed to accept slower shipping, you could get a 1$ credit for ebooks, downloadable music, or downloadable videos. when they first started offing this, it was on a per order basis. i quickly started separating my multi-item orders into separate orders (prime member), so that i could get 1$ per item. as this started around October, i ended up with some insane amount of credit (i have five kids, and it was the lead up to christmas), and downloaded several books and a bunch of music for free.
well, they are offering it again. notice on this screenshot that there is a discussion of the option at the top, right above the order summary, and an option on the right hand side for selecting "No Rush" shipping. this time, they are offering it on a per item basis in the order, so you can get what you need quickly, and wait on other items.

while you may not download ebooks or music, others in your household might be interested. usually, i am more interested in free shipping than 2 day delivery.
