The $39 sets were Used, which to me is a red flag. At least four people thought so little of the set, they sent it back.
Not necessarily. Sometimes it’s just damaged packaging. I bought a “used/refurbished” Chromebook a couple of years ago and it arrived brand new in a factory sealed box that had a small scuff on one end.

Could be cosmetic damage to the metal box. Could be bad actors planning on returning it, possibly with a few bits left out.

There are lots of cheap “precision” screwdriver bits and bit-sets. The Wiha stuff is certainly expensive, and not everybody needs it. You can spend more on this type of thing, but if you’re doing serious work on microelectronics professionally or as a long term hobby, it doesn’t make sense to try hard to spend less. A friend convinced me to spring for one of these sets when it was on sale and I’ve never regretted it, and I’ve given a few as gifts.

On the other hand, if you occasionally take covers off things, maybe swap out the RAM or disk in a laptop, these are overkill.

There are so many small and subtle things that Wiha gets right, with these. The handle really locks the bit in place, compared to a typical 1/4” insert bit holder for normal screwing.

Not surprised they sold out fast. I considered grabbing one as a backup.

Thanks @PugetDude and @zack20cb . Yeah, I've hit a lot of "used" items on Amazon lately and have yet to be disappointed. @zack20cb mentioned the bits locking in place, but reviewers are saying the exact opposite. I'm not trying to bash anyone or brand. I have Wiha as well. And brands from various countries, no issue there either. Maybe I've just spent too much lately!!

But, what the heck. @2manytools, here they are on eBay, $42. I may or may not have ordered one...

I was sloppy. The yellow bit holder handle has magnetic retention and there is some free play. The black one, which I see in the thumbnail of the eBay listing, is the one I’ve spent more time with. It’s fantastic. There’s no magnet. Instead, there’s a spring steel clip around the nose that squeezes the plastic right around the bit. Simple and super effective…but you might have to use pliers to get the bits back out. This is fine—usually if I’m changing bits frequently I’ll just use the extension (which is magnetic).

You made the right choice, I think, assuming that set has a good selection of bits for your use case.

Spent too much lately? Hehe yeah I know the feeling. I just let the forum talk me into a Gedore socket set which I really can’t claim that I need. But I did find that their demolition screwdrivers lived up to the hype, and maybe I should be carrying some metric sockets into trunk…

Honestly, it was the black handle that got my attention on eBay as well. I saw the yellow in the Amazon add, so I took a chance that it's the better version.

Yup. If what you’re looking for is rock solid retention you will not be disappointed!

I'm sure I will. I picked up this Tone set last week, mainly for the ratchet, but it sees to be a quality get. to be honest, I'm still not sure how Amazon Japan, recognized me, but it was smooth ordering and arrived lickety-split.

I used to work in retail and I used to see people come in all the time, buy a tool, take it home and use it, then bring it back the next day to return it. Wouldn't be surprised if some of these returns were the same thing

My experience with Amazon new/used warehouse deals has been excellent.
Mine too. Have had a few disappointments but just send it back.
Some missing items like a 50pk and only getting 40... But for 75% off and I don't need 40 anyway, I kept that package. These were Blum soft close cabinet hinges, made in Austria.

I'm well aware and have had perfect luck thus far with Warehouse deals. My Spidey senses just tingles on this Wiha deal for some reason, then I saw the yellow capped handle.
Heck, I have a pile of returns for Amazon that I haven't used, some haven't even opened. A cheap meter that is, well, just too cheap. Several tools bags that aren't the right fit for what I need them for, etc. All never used, but they might end up in the Warehouse as well. Shame really.

I don't abuse Prime, and research the **** out of everything but some items you just have to hold and Prime isn't free, so...

The fact that they always take Warehouse stuff back with no questions asked is what makes it work.

the funniest one I ever had was a Stahlwille tinsnip which turned out to be Craftsman Evolv. Some clever jerk swapped it out and of course Amazon was none the wiser. The worst part is that tin snip showed right back up in Warehouse after I returned it.
