Hi.

I spotted AmPro tools at a local automotive parts shop around here. The price was quite good and they've total warranty (whatever that means).
I'm interested in inputs about AmPro. Is the stuff worth buying?

Excuse my spelling.

Well, it is depend on which tools you talking about? like hand tools as it is made in tawian. most of people in usa are prefer buy tools that made in USA because good quality and support workers in USA....

I am dealership automotive technician so i have to buy best quality of tools that i can buy for low price like Craftsman or Snap on.....

AmPro are typical Taiwanese tools. Just like Performance Tool. Your money is probably best spent on American brands.

Okay. Well i was thinking about hand tools.

American brands are quite hard to find in Sweden to a reasonable price. Snap On and Mac Tools for example, is very expensive. Don't know if I can buy Craftsman around here.

If AmPro ain't worth looking at, I guess I'll go with Bahco or Kamasa Tools.

I have some AmPro stuff - a Ford 4x4 spindle socket, comes to mind. It was something I don't see breaking, so I went for it since it was cheap. For tools I would depend on or are mechanical (ie, ratchets), I would probably look elsewhere.

AmPro are nice to look at.

In the USA their lifetime guarantee only applies if you still have the receipt or they still have the record of you buying it in their computer. I would choose BAHCO in your situation.

There is always the Snap Pn Euro brand, not as shiney as the USA made tools but they are a little cheaper and Snap On UK carries the Blue Point range in sockets and wrenches

I don't think that's the same thing. I see no tools.

This is what you want:

It's junk, I have used a few different pieces and it's always the same story.

In 2010 /2011 I bought a 3/8 Ampro socket set.
Sizes went up to 22mm just like tge Gedore 1/2 set that got stolen out of my car.
I did the same work with it as I did tge Gedores before it , 10 years of oil , brake pad changes and other adhoc work on my vehicles the ratchet as well as its sockets are doing just fine. The worst I've done to tge ratchet is use it to break loose the sump plug and bolts when changing brakes , I've had ratchets fail in the past while asking less of them with a bleeding knuckle to show for it.
I've since seen Ampro has become a respectable tool in South Africa and as per my research , Australia and the likes too.
I'm a Gedore user (blue not the new red series that has come out ) but for a long time this ampro set has held up.

I've recently moved to the states and taken a look at what they sell at home depot, Lowes , HF etc and I wouldnt choose Ampro over say Snap on or SK but I'd choose it over Husky , Craftsman, Gedore red ( why gedore , why ??!!) and anything from Harbor freight hands down as the quality of the ratchets and sockets far exceeds those mentioned above.

A cheap, fast solution for stolen tools found a permanent place in my tool box and made the journey along with my Gedores with my from South Africa to the United States. I'm actually about to buy an Ampro wrench set on ebay to tide me over til my next trip to SA when I'll be brining my Gedore wrenches or spanners as we call them but when in Rome...

This thread popped up in my search results while I was looking for something up hence the old thread revival.

Looking at a set of 1/2 impacts. The Ampro impact set is well priced on Ebay, how does this brand compare to Tekton or Harbor freight?

I like the AmPro sockets and extensions I have. I’ve found several in the pawn shop. I don’t have their ratchets or anything so can’t speak for those. I have two of their screwdrivers which are ok as well. If they were still available today I’d buy them as long as they were the same quality. Some of the AmPro sockets I use at work daily.

Impacts I have no idea but the ampro wrenches that I have far exceed anything Pittsbirgh and I want to say Icon too but i haven't really used anything icon besides in store when I've played with the icon stuff but Icon gives me a Husky sort of feel in comparison.
As far as their ratchets go , I've used my Ampro 3/8 for brakes and oil changes quite often, that's about the toughest bolts I've used the ratchet on and it's held up for years. I haven't abused it , but I haven't gone too easy on it either.

Thought I'd pop an update here.
I recently acquired 5x Ampro Pliers.
I was disappointed to see these were made in China and not Taiwan like all the other Ampro tools I'd come across.
The larger of the multi Pliers I acquired and one of the long nose Pliers are Chrome Nickel while the rest are Chrome vanadium.
The small slip joint Pliers have exceeded my expectation, easily removing relatively small staples from shelving wood bought at home depot holding the label on, I didn't think the ends of these Pliers would grip the staple but they did with ease. Did that for shits and giggles ,however , the larger Chrome Nickel multi Pliers, I damaged the teeth trying to remove a dry wall screw that the head had broken off of, but gripping into it and trying to turn it counter clockimwise , the thread of the drywall screw scored the teeth of the Pliers after just a few attempted rotations.
As far as AmPro Pliers go , mixed experience , where one exceeded my expectation and based on that , the other was worse than what I expected.

As far as my wrench set and sockets sets , still very happy with those but I probbaly won't buy more Ampro Pliers as its hit /miss, I didn't lose much really at $30 for the 5 for NOS and I guess I'll have them for when I'm doing something I shouldn't do with Pliers and I'll use them as i won't feel sorry for them.
The slip joints in the Pic below, they're a little dusty
