An AC that doesnt require hose or hole in wall?

Technology hasnt advanced this far yet?..please tell me there is something. I dont want to put a hole in my garage and have no windows...want my garage cooler

if not then

its summer in florida i just had an insulated garage put in and the temp inside garage is still 82-84 in daytime..weve been 90's all week...id settle for 75-77..any ideas

how about getting a Y part and and attaching portable to dryer vent? if not guess everyone seems to like mini split..costs?

Technology doesn't trump thermodynamics. Making air cold creates heat, which has to go somewhere. If you use a minisplit, the hole would only need to be ~3" for the lineset and drain.

I ran the lineset for my minisplit in the wall and came out behind the compressor, so i wouldn't have them running down the side of my house.

You already have a big opening.........the garage door!!!

Set a big window AC on the ground at the opening. Close the door down on top of it.

Fill the rest of the opening with a 2" thick piece of foam board.

Do this whenever you need to work out there.

Just get a mini split and put a hole in the wall. The mini split will be there forever so the hole won't be a big deal.

Good luck, reserve a space on the space ship Enterprise, by then they will have figured how to do this, or move your garage to Canada, it should be cool enough up there.

You could always get a Port-A-Cool.

I've read that folks have used them with success in Florida, TX, and other areas with higher relative humidity.

Open all the windows and doors of your house and set your thermostat to 65. If you can just get your AC to cool down the entire outdoors then your Garage won't be soo hot.

They are better than nothing but swamp coolers do not work that well in humid Texas/Florida.

To the OP, better bit the bullet and put in A/C. That insulated garage will become an unbearable steam bath this summer.

There is one thing you can do that will help lower the temp in the garage--misters on the roof and sun exposed walls. Won't help a lot but it will help.

If you have a vented roof you coud install an exhaust (aka whole house) fan. Crack the door open and it may work best by cooling the space at night and then closing it up tight in the morning.

Op, clearly people are giving you a lot of ****. So to clear things up, when you say hole do you mean no window air conditioner seized holes or do you mean not even a 2" diameter hole for some refrigerant lines? An $800 mini split of Amazon might be the perfect choice here. It would be a clean install and have plenty of capacity for a garage. You do have to make a 2" hole in the wall but that's all.

How is it that you didn't plan on this before the garage was built? I would have thought living in Florida air-conditioning would be a must.

I am guessing that a mini-split would be the most practical way to go now that the garage is built. A window unit would be the cheapest way, IF you had a window of sufficient size. What is on the inside walls? What would it cost to add a window? I would venture to guess that putting in a window and buying a window air-conditioner would be more expensive than buying a mini-split and putting it in.

meant window installation
...was thinking swamp cooler but people said no on here..can u recommend a minisplit for $800? garage is 2 car garage 462 sq ft..south florida ft lauderale area

I installed a Pioneer 12,000 BTU in my old house. It was for a single upstairs room that used to have a forced air ducted system. My install was a bit more complex vs standard but I was able to reuse the existing wiring from the removed traditional split AC unit. I spent $100 to have someone leak check and commission the system. I also spent $100 to have an licensed tech remove my old system (given the work he did I'm not sure it was worth it). So in the end I was out about $1000 and my efforts to install the system. For the typical through the wall garage type install (outside unit on the other side of the garage wall) I would say the only concern is if you can deal with the wiring.

I ordered from the company directly because I wanted longer than standard refrigerant lines. The 12,000 and smaller come in both 115 and 230V models. I used the 230V because the wiring was already installed. My only regret was not getting a larger unit since I underestimated the heating load. 12,000 wasn't quite enough during the peak of the summer. I'm looking at adding onto my new (to me) house. The addition will include a garage with inlaw suite above. I'm thinking about going with the Pioneer again for the new space since I can't tie it into my either of my existing AC systems. I can't guess how big a system you will need. Find some on line calculators. For what it's worth (and I'm NOT an AC expert) I've read that you can oversize a bit with the variable speed mini split systems. They will simply spend more time running at low load/power vs a smaller unit.

bury/insulate your whole house under five feet of dirt, including the walls. the dirt will act as a wonderful insulator. and then you only have to heat your house (even in the summer time). If you don't beleive me go to carlsbad caverns in the summertime in texas, last time I was there I had to wear a coat inside the cavern, it was stinking cold.

Nope - I don't expect technology to overcome the laws of physics any time soon.
Mini split needs a hole in the wall too...portable A.C can vent to the outside with a 4" opening...even temporary as in through a window with a seal kit

It's not making air cold...it's removing heat from the air or a space.

Why is there a problem w holes?

No matter what, the heat energy needs to go outside.

To the other side of the wall, that means SOME sort of hole.

And if you get a portable unit w a dryer hose, or even two hoses, good luck.

I would just cutout and finish and support a proper size inexpensive window AC and be comfy.

Probably 25k btu in your case.

Well said - definitely outside the 4 walls.

Two options I see:
- You could drill a geothermal well in your garage and put in a geothermal heat pump. (This would put a very big hole in your floor - but not your wall...)
- You could perform heat exchange with water from your plumbing system (with an open loop water-cooled heat pump) and then dump the heat out through hotter water leaving through your drain.

... After you add up the numbers for either of these methods, I'd bet that the tiny hole for the mini-split will look more appealing to you.
