Before joining this forum a couple weeks ago, this garage transformation was not even planned. I blame you all for the sleepless nights and angry wife:mad:Below is the current status of my very long awaited 3 car garage. We just bought the house in December 2012 after a move from North Dakota to Colorado. The previous garage was a single detached without insulation, drywall, or an insulated garage door. As a bonus, the old garage would flood every heavy rain storm or snow melt. Moving into the new garage was already a huge improvement. Now that the house is in order with new floors and paint, the focus is now onto the garage....

Triple divided into a single and double

This half is a mess because I just cleared out the single to start the painting

The tool boxes and Harley will be living in the single bay when complete

Back wall of the single, cabinets from previous owner. I plan to put a SS top on counter. Painting has begun

Left side of single. Existing shelves will stay for storage. Opposite wall has large pegboard that will stay as well.

Stay tuned, next pictures will be further along in the paining process.

That's a really nice sized triple you got there. Any plans to blow out the wall between the two bays, or do you like it separated like that? Good luck with the "paining". LOL It certainly can be a painful process.

Thanks for the encouragement! I plan to keep the divider wall in place. For my purposes it is perfect the way it is. The single bay will be the clean side for the Harley. I will keep it the most organized and the wife never puts any of her stuff in there. The 2 car section will be for the ATVs and the wifes car. Im not sure if I will do much more than organize and clean the 2 car portion. The single will get the main focus of my time and budget. The paint in the single will be white top, charcoal bottom, with a black and orange devider stripe. Also hoping to do a matching racedeck floor.

UPDATE: Paint is starting to take shape. Still need to put a couple more coats on the orange and add a 3" stripe of black between the orange and grey. I plan to paint the top of the shelves and pegboard grey. Should I paint all the cabinets and trim black? Please give me your thoughts.
Also picked up a 40" LED and a diamond plate surge protector for above the countertop.

AC Unit made painting much nicer when its 90*F out.

I could definitely see the argument for the benefits of both having the wall and not having a divider wall. I agree that it can for sure help to "contain" a more clean or task specific area. I think that its especially a good idea seeing that the other area is for general use and will no doubt get cluttered quick.

Good luck with your project!

***update paint complete***

The painting is finally complete. Sorry for the crappy pics, ill get some better ones in the daylight. Taping off lines on textured drywall was a nightmare. It bled through in some areas, I can easy touch up with a brush. Started moving things back in today. Ill have some more progress pictures tomorrow. Can't wait to get the Harley back in its place. :shocking:

Added an LED strip under the cabinets.

Garage is getting back into order. As I expected I have a few items im not sure what to do with. Still have some space on the pegboard so ill have to get some more tools  You will notice I have not hung any signs yet, still deciding what to keep and what to get rid of. Think I need some more harley related decorations to pull it all together. I would like to build a bench for the wall to the right of the tool box. Not sure what I would do with the drawer craftsman box if I go that route. Thought it would be cool to make some compartments under the bench that the clear drawers from the plastic storage would slide into?. Let me know any ideas or suggestions.

Need some help deciding on a garage floor. Size is 19'6 x 11' 6. I am hoping to spend ~$500. Anyone want to offer suggestions or pattern ideas? I really like the idea of race deck but may need a cheaper alternative as I was quoted ~$700.

First off, awesome progress on the garage! I really dig the Harley having its own space.
Now, Im going to go against the grain here.
There are plenty of people here that love race deck, but I really dont like it. We have it in a small portion of our shop (break room of all places) and I find it loud and not nearly as durable as its advertised. Plus it always seems to look dusty/dirty.

Epoxy and call it a day. Just my .02

Hi there,

Nice set-up you got there! I noticed the modified Harbor Freight lift. I was thinking about doing the same mod with that wheel stand. But I have an Ultra limited and am wondering if it'll support it or not.
How is it holding up for you on your bike?

Cheers

Very stable with my Fatboy on it. I believe the capacity is 1200 lbs. the wheel clamp is also from HF. The center lift is a drag specialties piece.

Found some great deals this weekend and made a lot of progress in the garage. First was a 6' Husky wood bench at Home Depot. Found a open box on the shelf with minor damage and missing hardware got the $250 bench for $150. Then at Sears got a $289 closeout cabinet for $140. Filled the cabinet with all the Harley parts and pieces. Spent some time cleaning and organizing and I'm very happy with the results. Still need to hang up some wall signs and finish organizing all the front cabinets. Floor is going to be a while now.

NOW ON TO THE PICS!

2 car garage got some love as well. Still a long way to go but I have some great ideas from the forum for help. First step is to get rid of/ donate some things. Then im going to build or buy some overhead storage and take advantage of some open wall space.

Found a deal for a used 5HP 60 Gallon Speadaire compressor for $450. What do you think? If I get it, I plan to set it up in the 2 car portion with a line plumbed into the single as well.

Next time you paint get your tape laid out and then paint a light coat of the color that's already there. If it bleeds under the tape it will be the same as the existing paint under the tape and it will fill in any of the gaps. Once it's dry, paint the desired color.

That is a great tip. Those textured walls were extremely hard to get a clean line. One of these days I will go back through and clean it up. For now I just want to enjoy the garage.

Finally got around to painting and organizing the 2 car garage this weekend. It helps when the wife is out of town. First 2 pictures are the before shots. As you can see there was alot of things piled up and it was way harder to get to the things I need. Went with a much simpler paint job for the larger space, grey on the front and back wall and white on the side walls. After painting, I discovered i need more lighting.

Few things that got done as far as organizing/ cleaning:
-Gladiator storage for brooms, shovels, etc.
-Gladiator storage for extention cords and hose
-Hung the bikes
-Hung the loading ramp
-Installed wire shelving (allows full size truck to fit in garage)
-Painted stairs and installed grip tape (previous owners dog tried to eat them)
-Eliminated useless nails, screws filled holes
-Started decorating (love the superduty grill)

Still need to hang the ladder and get rid of some more junk. Seem to have too many tires and car parts. Also saved the boxes from my TVs, probable time for those to go as well.

Sorry for the poor picture quality, Ill get some with the camera soon.

Fresh Paint!

Finally some better quality pictures instead of the I Phone. As you can see, still have a few things to organize. Let me know if you have any ideas for the golf clubs and snowboard. Thinking some kind of wall hanging unit, just not sure where it would look best. Tonight I hung the ladder, installed smoke and carbon monoxide detectors. Also discovered that the florescent fixtures only have 2 bulbs installed instead of 4. Should help my lack of light in the garage. Also noticed that the garage door opener light was not working. Turned out to be a corroded and bent terminal. Let me know what you guys think in any question or comments. This forum has inspired me.

Some updated pictures of Harley garage below. Minor things but still good progress.
-Mounted diamond plate outlet strip above counter
-Installed Paper towel holder
-Created labels for the tool box and installed them on magnets for easy change
-Installed much needed window blinds, the sun was heating the space during the day.
-Installed dry erase board on back of door for tracking projects
-Put up a few decorations

Anyone see a good location for a 60 Gal air compressor?

To me it looks like you have room beside the garage door in the third last pic if you shimmied everything down a few inches. That way its right beside your tall cabinet and would blend in well.

Question on portable a/c unit. What size, how much? And how well it works? Looking for one for father in law for his 20 x 20.

Dubber,
I was hoping to place the compressor in the 2 car garage, but your right it looks like I could fit it there and it would be out of the way. Ill check to see how much it would cost to run the power. (panel is in the 2 car)

Ill check on the AC unit. Can remeber the specs but it works well and was around $250.

Garage Upgrades

Installed a stereo with 5 speakers throughout the garage. Got an amazing deal from a friend. I mounted the receiver with some scrap sheet metal I had laying around.

When I bought the house, the attic had a very small opening for access. I decided to add a pull down ladder and partially sheet the attic with plywood. I was able to move a bunch of the wife's stuff up there as well as some car parts. Now I don't have to look at the Christmas tree in the garage for 11 months out of the year. :rocker:

This update is a little late. I purchased and installed this HF compressor back in October when I blew out the sprinklers for the first time. I also picked up the hose reel and the earthquake impact while I was at HF. The regulator, air dryer and misc fittings came from HD and Lowes. Still plan to pick up and airline system to route air to the Harley half of the garage. You an also see a new counter top and power strip in this photo.

Close up of the manifold. Left an outlet on top for future expansion. I am going to extend the drain to at least 12" soon as well.

As an ongoing effort to organize items by use, I created a wash detail area near the sink. Should be nice come summer to be able to find it all in one spot.

Being winter I felt it was a good time to rearrange some winter sports equipment. Wife and I just got some snow shoes for Christmas. The snow boards have been leaning in a corner getting in the way for a while as well. A bit of Gladiator track and some hangers and its out of the way.

Couple of the projects going on in the garage. Put the Harley on the lift for some maintenance and upgrades. Main projects include installing a new starter and brake rotors. HF lift makes life much easier.

Also just installed and 8' x 5' section of Garagetrac flooring. This was purchased as a parking pad for the bike but is currently occupied by the quad. So far quality seems great. Only issue I have noticed is a tendency to slide around. I assume this us due to the small size of the section.
