Yes, the one I have that I'm recommending is the 8.5 amp version. It looks the same as the one on Amazon. I don't know if B&D changed it to be only 6.5 amps now for a cost reduction and brought out a "better" one for the Porter Cable line inastead. If so that is a bad move. Or it could just be a typo. The 8.5 amp one is a champ. - Paul

I think it is a typo. The Amazon and B&D website are showing the same part number of grinder, so I don't think there are two versions unless you have one they have now discontinued.

What is the part number on your grinder?

Metabo.

I have a rigid that I bought in 2006 that was Made in Germany. Supposedly by Metabo - that was the discussion at the time on all of the forums. Looks like a Metabo from then, just orange.

Try to get one to turn on and compare how smooth they run. Vibration will eventually wear you and the tool out.

this ? :)

I'm definitely a DeWalt guy. They are tough and really hard to beat in my opinion. Lots of different prices and models to chose from.

Although, my uncle gave me a Kawasaki for Christmas a few years back. I've used it hard and it still works like new. Definitely wouldn't mine having another one just like it

Amazon had a warehouse deal on a W8-115 model for $77.00 with prime shipping. Score!

I just ordered a WP8-115 Quick for $72 from the warehouse, "Packaging may be damaged". There are a lot of Metabo grinder deals from Amazon Warehouse at the moment.

My jacket ate a twisted wire cup brush before, which made me glad I choose paddle switches when I can. I'm looking forward to testing the clutch too.

The one I have is the G950 model with a clearly labeled 8.5 amps on the side of it. So either it is a typo or else they changed the G950 to now be 6.5 amps instead. I don't know the answer to that, but can say my G950 with the 8.5 amps is really a sweet little grinder. Think Dewalt lite but for alot less money than the yellow stuff but similar quality in this particular tool. - Paul

I like the feel and switch of the 402 but they didn't hold up, check the brushes before its too late.

U must of had a reject one. Mine has had the **** beat out of it and is close to 15 years old so I wouldn't say they don't hold up....I'd say it'll outlive everything else

Nice post, much appreciated.

That's why he's a Junior Member: because in his world it's more important to criticize than appreciate and educate. It will come back to him when he posts his first build.

No, that's why that account has been banned. It was a secondary account from another member to apparently make snide comments from. He's been warned and will lose all GJ privleges if it happens again.

When I broke young man, my parents bought me a 4" grinder from one of the Homier tool truck sales for $20. Surprising it lasted about 10 years. When it died, I bought a Cman Industrial as at that time, I thought it was the best deal available locally. It's held up quite well and since then, the prices have come down quite a bit for angle grinders.

I also have a 18V Dewalt that comes in very handy when the work is too far to drag a cord.

I just now seen what you guys are talking about....it's a tool forum..hate to break it to that **** but guess what...this topic along with 95% of every other tool post on this forum has been asked before and it's probably going to be asked again. It's a tool forum for cryin out loud...that's why people join up(to give advice and learn about tools and anything garage related)
As long as ur not posting the same related topic right above another person that posted a similar post....who cares
There is constantly new people joining and constantly new tools and technology comming out. The same preferences and advice given about something today may be completely different than if it was asked 3 months ago.

Sorry for my rant but I hate the random forum nazis that have to be mr big shot and yell at people to "use the search button!" And "this has been covered a million times"

I wish you would publicly name this person so we would all know whose posts are not worth reading.

well said 90zcar! There are so many members here, that often when an old topic is revisited you get great new input from people who may not have posted or seen the topic the first time.

If you have a bit more coin get a Hilti, the smaller ones are still made in Europe and are industrial quality. If you don't mind Chicom and want something more readily available get a Makita, I've beat the sh*t out of mine and it still works good with no bearing noise. Avoid the cheap brands unless you want a throw away tool

or B) the cheapest thing on the shelf that you can stand the feel of. Seriously, if you're using these things hard, anything short of the Metabo is a disposable tool.
Harbor Freight 4.5" grinders are always on sale for $9.95, and they actually last if you are not using them all day long.

No matter what grinder you end up with a variable speed is a huge advantage. Will extend the life of the flap disk x2 easy.

You would never miss it, if you never had it. Have one and there is no going back, absolute control.

They are not very good. The B&D 7750 at Wally retails for 30 and have actually seen it at Menards for 20 but its 10X the unit the HF is, throw it in a gang box and its not long and no one pays any attn to the fact is not a 100$ grinder. It may be better, has an improved cord and more durable brushes then the DeWalts, based on the same chassis and internals. Even weighs the same.

Or for more than 10-15 minutes at a time. I had a few of them. Burned up multiples in 1 weekend building a heavy duty bumper. Went and bought a metabo and will never look back.

Didn't realize how bad the HF sucked and beat the hell out of me until I upgraded.

Walmart hasn't sold the B&D model you're talking about in a LONG time.

I also like variable speed for a lot of jobs.
