So after a few years in my home I've reached my endpoint. Living out of boxes in the basement for my tools has drove me insane. Large boxes for hand tools, small boxes and tupperwear for screws and nails, etc, etc. Its a basic 2 car garage.
First thing I need to do was rid myself of junk and an old commuting car. I picked up a set of cabinets at the local habitat for hummanity store. Pretty good deal. I picked up the whole set for $50.. which comes out to less than $5 per.
I mounted them on the wall using trial and error but figured it out well enough that they are level and secure to the wall.
I knew I wanted to mount some overhead storage over the cabinets. The idea would be to mount lights underneath. Using 2x4s and creating the framework, I mounted to the back wall using 5" ledger board lag screws. I installed an eybolt to the front with washers on bolt sides and tighted the nut on the inside. In the attic space I screwed 2 pieces of 2x6 across the rafters and and mounted the same eyebolt. The chain was installed on the bolt and lowered through a small slit in the drywall in the ceiling.
Using some leftover stain, I coated the unfinshed 2x4s with the stain.
Now on to painting the cabinets. Matching our front door and shutters I chose the valspar colonial green color in satin. I scuffed up the surfaces and laid on multiple coats of green. I intentionally left the chains long so I can hang the doors off them as I paint.
