After posting a picture in the Williams thread of a 9/32nds drive ratchet,I got curious to see if any of the other items I had purchased at this particular estate sale were odd. And I came up with this piece:
It is a ratchet that is designed to be put into an extension on either end and is stamped,"USAF J O Mfg. Co Southgate Calif. Size I Spec- 50482 Pat. Appl'd"
The gentleman whose estate was being sold was a retired Air Force person whom I am assuming worked on aircraft as there were a fair amount of tools including a 1/4"(I think,I'll have to check)Snap-On speeder handle and some sockets that looked to be for large size Dzus fasteners and a couple of smaller sized Plomb sockets of the same variety;a;though these may have been for Cam-Loc or Air-Loc fasteners as the tips are square rather than rounded..
Haven't done much research on the name but am wondering if anyone has an idea of the time frame this item may have been produced.

A neat find there. Does it work like a ratcheting adapter?

JO or JO LINE tools, they make a lot of lorque limiting tools that come with a preset torque spec..

Yes it is essentially a ratchet with no handle. The Williams ratchet I posted earlier fits into the top.
I don't think it is a torque limiting tool though. In researching it I came up with a JO Line tools in New Jersey;I wonder if it is an offshoot of this company.

So it is a ratcheting adapter. Cool. I've never seen one in 9/32". The Williams ratchet is a good find too. I have some 9/32" Williams, Plomb, Armstrong, and Snap on.

If you look around though you'll find JO-LINE TOOLS Southgate, CA.

Not sure if they are still in business.

A company with that name also made those double jointed hand drills for work in really tight places. Like inside airplane wings.

Looks to be the same company.Interesting that the Spec # is similar to the one on the ratchet.Might be able to research it through Air Force records if they are available. I would venture that it was likely post WWII as if it were before it would likely be stamped USAAF(United States Army Air Force)/

Safariknut,

I have some wartime JO MFG Co wingnut adaptors. They fit a 9/32-inch drive stud and they came with a mess of other 9/32-inch drive sockets, handles, and extensions, all Snap-On or Plomb, in a NOS USAAF box.
