No shed progress today...
got distracted by a mid-week, late-night purchase:
DSC_1226.jpg

the kart came with a roll cage, when i tried to fit it i realised the front mounting bracket was missing.
easiest option was to hack up the little roll hoop i'd removed and turn it into a mount.
the mig welder is playing up, so had a crack with the tig, managed one decent (ish) weld out of a couple of dozen! then promptly ran out of gas...

_20170114_185607.jpg

And the reason for the kart, a good friend has a small property a couple of hours away, it has a large lake, which in summer is more like a salt pan.
here's a google maps image to give you an idea of the fun we'll be having on Australia day! (he already has one kart there, so now we can have races!)

That kart will be fun out there on those salt lakes. We passed a lot of those in September 2015 on the Outback Trek I did, as we came from Coober Pedy to Streaky Bay, all by dirt roads.

And your garage appears to have the same growing issues mine does with the insulation under the roof panels. Any plans to line the ceiling? Mine is in terrible condition, and constantly flakes and drops strips down as it degrades (It's been there for 20 years now - this week coming). If it wasn't for the fact that we have an uncertain amount of time here I would replace it, or line the ceiling (or both).

The far side of crazy.. but sometimes Australia
thanks for the offer. already got wheel specs in mind for what i'm doing, and they'll be a tad taller than 13"...

bit jealous of the formula vee, always wanted to get one and do some hillclimbs, cheap motorsport!

It lives in Taswegia now, I sold it middle of last year. Like all forms of motorsport, Vee's (despite being an entry level control formula) are a case of no substitute for cubic dollars if you want to be competitive.

yeah, these little karts are bags of cheap fun! my mate's had one at his property for a couple of years now and it's been great, but having two will be better! the lake already had a bunch of old tyres strewn around to form some sort of track, he's moved the odd one but it's been pretty good as it is!
he's got an old quad with a rusted out frame which we're going to turn into form kind of frankenkart too!

i've got no plans to line the ceiling, mainly due to cost. i've got a roll of the silver **** and pink bats there, so i'll get that all up there when i get a chance and hopefully it'll last a decade before it pisses me off!
one day i'll screw some plywood sheets up there or something...

today i actually managed to make some progress in the shed.
working on the room i'm putting in the corner, i finished off the roof/mezzanine structure and then started fitting top hat section ready for insulation and gyprok.
still plenty to do, but pleased to get a fair bit done!
next i need to get some materials to make the two walls, and find a sliding glass door.

Actual proper progress two sundays in a row!

found a sliding door for the room locally, unfortunately i couldn't use the trailer from work today so i'll get it later in the week.
_20170212_105700.jpg
got the side wall frame done, and made a start on what i could do for the front without the door here yet...
DSC_1289.jpg
DSC_1290.jpg
got keen and threw some gyprok up on the new side wall.

excuse the mess! every time i do something i have to re-arrange all the **** to make room, and every time i re-arrange the mess gets messier! haha...

thanks for the positive comments guys.
one of the main reasons i started a thread was to try and keep myself motivated.
hopefully i'll manage decent progress like this fairly regularly, nothing happens overnight but little by little i'll get the shed sorted, then i can get on with the other 15 projects i have lined up to be done in the finished shed!

one project i'd like to get cracking on is something along the lines of this:
Dashing.jpg
it's a beetle dash panel that was converted to be a stereo/ipod dock etc.
just loved the idea when i saw it!
i've got a dash cut waiting to be butchered, and a car stereo system form an old project car which i'll probably put in it.
i plan to remove the centre of the dash to make the whole thing a bit narrower, so i'll cut either side of where the original radio sat and join the two ends back together.

Three weeks in a row of good progress!

got my $50 sliding door fitted today! that was the only noticeable achievement, everything else was boring stuff like cutting and fitting top-hat for the gyprok inside the room...
DSC_1303.jpg
DSC_1304.jpg
DSC_1305.jpg

i've been busy procrastinating about shelving.
the area to the (left) side of the room is going to be mostly for storage....hidden away in the corner.
i could go the quick route and buy some shelves, they'll probably be chinese and sh*t. or, i could make some myself... this still requires more thought...

So, I haven't updated in quite a while...

there's a good reason for that.... i've not really got anything worthwhile done!

i have added a little bit more insulation and gyprok to the room, but really haven't achieved much!
DSC_1383.jpg

I got sidetracked in recent weeks by making a couple of 'chassis extenders' for the buggies at my mate's property.
the plan was to make them about 150mm longer to give us a bit more leg room.
It was a great excuse to keep practicing my Ali tig welding, and all in all i feel i'm starting to get better...

Bought myself a dremel today, been thinking about it for a long time, the main purpose being to start making some custom hotwheels cars (yes, another hobby to add to the list).

The inspiration for one of the custom hotwheels builds was this:
10553664_829881923700015_7104053346665202061_o.jpg
10550854_1583204435257971_7459844010226397186_n.jpg
It was a piece of art, a drawing.... and some nutter with too much ability turned it into reality. now i'm making a sort of 'hotwheels homage'...

Had a lot of fun Easter weekend at my friend's property.
the modifications we made to the buggies all held up to a solid day of terrible driving and a couple of crashes to boot!
IMG-20170417-WA0006.jpg
I've had this week of work, and my father-in-law is off too, so he's given me a hand and we've made good progress in the shed.
finished putting gyprok up in the room.

My daughter broke her hand last sunday so she's been 'helping' too...
DSC_1467.jpg

next for me is a crash course in gyprok flushing!

Also, i finally moved a few things that had been blocking up the carport for a while, so my '58 beetle project is now atleast in the the shed where it belongs. i'm still a little way off starting work on it unfortunately...

kai1980 great to see that you have had a great time with the buggies, now that would be a blast..

Great progress on the shed side of things as well.

My heart goes out to your daughter as well and I trust she is recovering well, that's one tough life experience.

Finishing and sanding plaster board, now that's fun........Not.

Regards

Thanks, she broke her finger on the eve of her 4th b'day, ended up a night in hospital because they had to knock her out and clean it all out, it was a good size cut plus fracture... nine stitches later...
having her dominant hand immobilised has not slowed her down at all though!

and i agree, even though i haven't flushed gyprok yet, i work in the building industry and see it done daily. atleast i have got a few pointers from watching others do it, but i also know what a filthy/dusty job it's going to be!

Great job on the shed.

Glad to see a smile on your daughters face.

The buggies look like fun.
