As a frequent visitor to Jalopy and Jockey journal, I always hoped for a garage of my own to join the ranks of The Garage Journal....

....And next week I'll enter into the ranks with a brand-spankin-new 30' x 22' garage in the Windy City.

I've been a garage rat (chopping and screwing everything I could find.... cannibalizing 12 things just to maybe make one thing work....once.) for most of my life, but mostly other peoples.'

Wish me luck as the pile of sticks gets put together early next week!!

Here's a view (from my son's room) of the cement mixer backing down the alley. 30 minutes earlier, this space was occupied by overgrown weeds and construction debris that never quite made it to the trash.

Here's the first cement truck pouring. At the end of the day, 3 cement trucks emptied out everything they had in em.' The foundation is 6 1/2" at the thickest part (towards the house), and about 4 1/2" at the apron.

Here's a 30' x 22' piece of cement. And an almost finished sandbox for the kids. In the center of the garage (facing the house) there's gonna be a 9' wide "party door" with a gable dormer just as wide right above it.

I'm using Danley's for everything. The owner has been the salesman that I've been working with, and he's been more than reasonable as far as my upgrades prices are concerned (i.e. : Hardi-Board siding, 10' ceiling height, 8' overhead doors, 16" O.C. ceiling joists (instead of their usual 48" O.C. "cross ties", etc...)

I'll post more pics in my build-out thread:
