So, I've decided to build another garage in addition to my barn. I didn't think I would be, but now I am. SO, I'm looking for the community to help me find good "kit" companies out there. I will be building this myself, and this isn't the first time. However, I can't seem to find a good kit site. As usual, most don't show pricing unless you enter all of your contact info which I'm not going to do.
My house was built in 26, and there's a barn not far from the house. So, I have a good idea of what I want, I hope you guys can steer me to some good sites.
Wants:
Garage needs to be minimum 2 stall
It needs to have a Gambrel roof
Any siding is fine; Wood is fine, or I will Vinyl it to match the house
A loft would be good, but not necessary.
Garage doors can be standard or oversized, it doesn't matter. The barn already has an oversized garage underneath that can fit heavy machinery
I want the garage to simulate the looks of a barn so it looks the part with the "farm" property.
Otherwise, I'm pretty open. Size, shape, etc are of no consequence. I have a minimum acre to put this thing on, so no size restrictions of any kind. Like anyone else, I'd love the cheapest price, but I will take what I can get.
In my area, it's apparently impossible to find a quality builder. I called 5 people yesterday to build a custom garage; no one does that apparently. I was going to attach a garage to the house, and none of them wanted to do that, even though it would be easy. That side of the house has nothing that would need to be demoed, and heck, even the back door wouldn't need to be removed. It would just become the inside garage door.
1 guy said, "go to Menards or Home Depot and pick out a kit. Then I'll build it." Umm, if I wanted to do that, I'd just build it myself. Which, it looks like I'm going to have to do after my phone calls.
One guy lives in the housing development directly across the street from me. His house faces mine. He said, "I'm busy for the next two weeks with work, but after that I'll stop over. He lives less than 100 feet from me. Immediately off the list!
Third builder is coming at 1pm today to talk shop. They "used" to build garages onto houses, but he said it's cost prohibitive. When I asked what that was, he said, "2-3 times what a standalone would cost." So I said, give me a number. That's when he said, "We just don't do that anymore."
So, apparently, people in my area don't like to work hard. It's been very frustrating so far, so I'm hoping the GJ community is a little more personable.
Toss me your thoughts!
