Well my epoxy coating wore off horribly over the past 5 winters so decided to go with Racedeck tiles. Needless to say I'm very happy with the turn out! Very nice system and seem very durable.

Looks nice. Can fluid get between or under the plates?
Fluids can get thru the joints between the tiles if the fluid isn't wiped up right away. But the time it takes to get thru depends on the viscosity of the fluid and how long it is left there.

If I am working on something where I may spill oil, or brake fluid, or whatever else I may spill, I always put down a small tarp or a piece of cardboard which will catch the spill should it happen. But I would do that even if was just the bare concrete floor. The idea is to take steps in order to prevent spills from causing problems in the first place. It is like the old adage says "an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure".

In regards to spills, First it really is never a good idea to leave any petroleum or chemical spill for long periods in a garage. The seams on RaceDeck are tight enough to create hydro-static tension so that liquids do not just flow through, most drips and accidential spills are wiped up as they happen and do not flow through. ( if you leave a hose running in your garage, yes water will get through)
RaceDeck is a full-suspension floor with a patent channel system underneath to allow liquids to flow freely and air to circulate ( I even wash my car in my garage all winter long).

Should you need to get under the RaceDeck due to a spill, access a drain plate, or whatever other reason, its very easy to pop a single tile or section out see this short video

Car? I'm parking a 9000lb F350 with 36" tires on it, and studded tires in the winter. Lol (laying down puckboard strips for the studded tires)
You can have studded tires in Alberta? Around here we can't have them because they say the studs tear up the roads. When I was a kid we could use them, but laws have been passed since then that prohibit the use of studded tires.

Ya it's legal from Nov-April. The newer studs do not tear up roads but the ones back in the day did aparantly. :)

Hi
I too have some big trucks with aggressive treads that I drive all winter long, in addition to snowmobiles occasionally pulling in

Here is a short clip of the truck wheels turning on the RD
Sorry about the really lame background music ;)

Your floor looks great... How hard is it to keep clean? I had a plastic tile floor before (not a racedeck system) and it was hard as hell to keep looking nice with all the dust here in Texas...

Also does it buckle up when the sun hits it? The sun here in Texas made mine (not a racedeck system) buckle due to expansion...

Thanks.... Since I just finished it I can't answer your questions however as long as you leave 1/4"-1/2" away from your walls there should be no buckling. I'll know about the dust soon enough considering I live in the world's largest Oilsand town. Lol

if you damage one tile, do you have to start at an edge and remove all tiles until you get to the damaged one?

also, can you use a jack on that?

does it sound like cardboard when you walk on it?

Nope. Check out their videos on you tube. You can just pop out that one tile and replace with a new one. Doesn't seem very tough at all.

Great looking pattern and color choice.

Curious why you decided to go with the solid tiles as opposed to the free flow? From the threads I've read, people that live in snow prone areas go with the free flow to allow the slush to drain through the tiles.

Yes you can jack on it no worries.

Thanks, I thought about it but because my pad is perfectly level (not pitched towards the doors) and I do not have a floor drain and figured this would be best. I am also making a drip mat for the winter and will just **** out the water with a shop vac.

I did a test with jack stands. Lifted just the rear of the car with two stands and the jack was left for safety.

After removing the stands, it did leave marks/ indentations.

^ when you use the cheaper style angle iron jack-stands as opposed to the one that have base plates in them ( ex craftsman, snap-on, et) the can leave an impression and even act like a cookie-cutter on not only modular flooring, but also VCT and PVC tiles... They are also known to chip paint & epoxy. When you take a total rough surface area of say 1/16th" or less and put a 3,000-10,000 lb load it can even scratch/chip raw concrete. Simple solution is any small metal or wood square under it.

For what it's worth, I think I installed my Race Deck about 5 years ago or so and it still looks great. About twice a year I mop it down with Simple Green & water. Then hit it with a coat of their "Restore" product that makes the color pop like new. You can search my old threads to find my floor. As far as heat, it often gets over 100 in the garage with no issues. As for sunlight, I wouldn't know as I keep my garage door closed.

Your floor looks outstanding! Nice work.

I just purchased a new home and hoping to install RaceDeck Free-Flow tiles within the next few months. I just started playing around with the designs on their website. Cool stuff.

Thanks. Yes I highly recommend it and I spent weeks trying different designs on their floor designer to come up with the patterns and colors I wanted. My walls and ceiling were all white and my cabinets black so since I decided to go with blue in the flooring I put up a blue border and did my electrical outlet covers just to tie everything in.

*his garage is fancier than my livingroom*

That I doubt but it sure feels nice working in a space that you enjoy.

So, you're saying that your floor jack is indenting on your Racedeck and you want to put something under it?

I would start with 1/8" aluminum and see how it holds up.

Do you have any left over tiles from your floor? Use those, or a piece of plywood 1/2"+

I have never had a problem with my floor jack leaving marks on the Racedeck. Jack stands, did leave marks until I got better stands with a base, but the floor jacks never left a mark.
