Got My own dedicated fab area at our new shop. the 1/4 steel work bench we had for the entire shop was always lacking....

Picked up two 35-1/2"x 32" 7/8" thick plates from the scrap yard for 110 bucks. they were side plates from an ancient elevator pulley.

The top frame was built out of scrap 4" channel we had laying around from an old machine that got scrapped.

Legs are 6x6 3/8" wall square tubing I had at home left over from a project.

Just the frame/top and legs...

casters were from a snap on Epic 2500lb cart. 8" wheels and locking swivel on both rolling side and swivel side. they are rated at 1200lbs each. for the caster pads, I used some 6x6" 3/4" plate and drilled and tapped them on my pocket sized Wen drill press that was thrown in as a freebie when I bought my bandsaw.

used a motor lifting ring to torch cut the top plate for the vise. I didn't really feel like drilling and tapping a 7/8" plate by hand..... (some day I'll get a mag drill)

Originally was going to add a shelf underneath to store extra welders, plasma cutters and misc stuff. after having the legs and framework already done, I had an old green lee work cart and a light bulb went off... since I had 4 way locking swivel casters, I could easily turn them 90 degrees and roll it over the "cart". had I thought of this prior to welding up the table, I would have spaced the legs apart farther and made the 4" channel frame for the top differently. removed the wheels on the Green Lee cart and added some 2x4 box tubing for the cart to sit on and still be able to be moved by a fork lift. total weight with the reed 3c was 867lbs. rolls like butter on those casters

You are going to need a bigger vise...that thing is a whimpy one:bounce:

Very much suckage on the table top price for that slab too...

Nice build...many years of service will be had out of that build.

Great build! I like the gang box underneath, makes it a lot faster than custom fabricating all of those parts...grinding-dust free to boot due to the doors.

Hopefully everyone else in the shop doesn't start using your area

Great so far, but you forgot one of the place mats since you work in a "public" shop... Steve
