Another new floor coating question...

My new shop is about 90% done, and I want to "seal" the concrete floor.

Last shop I had, I applied a single-stage "epoxy" coating. Two coats. It went over Kemiko acid stain. That epoxy coat was terrible. Scuffed and scratched immediately. Looked really bad.

This time, I'm not staining the concrete. I want a clear finish, like a medium - dark gray. I think the epoxy with flakes look is getting somewhat dated, so just a nice simple finish. Also, not interested in tiling the floor.

Suggestions for a good looking coating that will hold up?

Take a look at our SPGX clear 1-part polyurea. Very well priced and easy to apply since this is a 1-part, no mixing product. Gives the floor a 'polished concrete' look, but with the resistance of urethanes.

No, it does not unless your floor is very porous or has other issues.

PRIME, PRIME, PRIME....
Looks better and leaves you with more mils on the floor.
Any coating going over a properly prepared surface is almost always a (2) coat process unless you like a splotchy surface.

I'm frankly confused at this point... Already over budget (of course...) and not really thrilled about spending a lot of $$$ on the floor.

I know, you get what you pay for.. But I'm hoping I can get a decent finish for under $2500, if I do it myself.

I wish I could just have someone reliable tell me exactly which product to use, how much to order, without all the interpretation of various products.

I don't mean to insult the vendors here, but really, everyone says their product is the best, without really saying why.

I wish I could just have someone reliable tell me exactly which product to use, how much to order, without all the interpretation of various products.

You will almost never here me say that my product is the best. Legacy has darn good product, so does Armorpoxy and many others in this forum. This has absolutely NOTHING to do with what is best and everything to do with the best option for you.

You have thrown a budget number out there but I don't see square footage so it is very difficult to give detailed info. I may have missed it. If so I apologize.

I keyed in on simple and no flake. We have several great options for that. If you simply want to seal it we have some great sealers too.

At one end of Wolverine Coating product spectrum we supply AcryliSeal 3501 which is a low cost water based sealer. Plan on having to re-coat every 4-5 years but super simple to apply and it is tough as nails considering it is an aqueous sealer.

For a more durable (but not fancy...) coating I'd throw a solid coat of our BondTite 1101 primer followed by a coat of our EnduraShield 2254 with or without SpheriTex traction additive over a properly prepped slab.

I'd need actual project square footage to specify quantities.
