Welcome aboard vorstang. That's an excellent work space. Looks like there's some storage space upstairs as well? Also, was that floor painted red at one time? Just curious what was used....

does anybody recommend a good drive on car lift?
I have a BackYard Buddy 4 post lift that has been maintenance-free since I got it in 2002. :) Very stable and I like the safety locks on the posts. 4 post lifts are easy to drive on to and off of. They work well for many tasks but have limitations for wheel/brake/suspension work.

what do you guys recommend for coating the floor of the garage. epoxy or paint?

If you plan on doing a lot of welding / grinding, they will both get trashed in a matter of days or weeks. If welding and grinding are rare in your building, go with epoxy. Assuming the prep work is done right, epoxy will outlast regular floor paint any day of the week. If you're going with epoxy, there are several brands that people here have good luck with. Rust Oleum EpoxySheild Pro (don't waste money on the water based stuff), and U Coat It seem to be the most prevalent.

Whatever you decide to use, prep is the to making it stick and look good. All grease, oil, loose concrete, dirt, etc. needs to be removed. The slab has to be dry and not have moisture problems. Application temp is also important - don't even think about it until next spring or summer unless your building is heated and you want to keep it at 65 or 70 for a couple of weeks (you need a stable air temp and substrate temp). Cracks should be filled to make the floor look better and to eliminate other potential problems.

I used EpoxyShield Pro on my garage this summer and would definitely use it again. The way things are looking right now, I'll be helping my father in law do his garage with the same stuff next summer.

Good Luck.

and by the way, welcome to the board.

Any reason for the drive on lift? I've not used one, but it would seem to be quite the hassle to me. My buddy has a Rotary 10k# assymetrical two post lift that I love. I've seen garages with Rotary drive on lifts, I think Rotary is considered the Cadillac of lifts so I doubt you could go wrong there.

the reason for the drive on lift is so when you do frame connectors or some suspension work you will need the suspension loaded.

With a great shop like that you cant be suffering with too much garage envy. I built an '82 notch, 4cyl shell, mexican block line bored, studded, '68 289 heads cc'd with 1.94, 1.60 stainless valves, harland sharp roller rockers, 350 chev forged pistons, 289 con rods, (slightly longer than 302) and on and on. Redlined about 7200.

who makes a good car lift? i'm looking for a drive on.

I have one of these and am very happy with it (http://www.kwiklift.com) You can still get into the car without climbing a ladder when it's on the lift. It's easy enough to roll underneath and with an extra bridge, you can pull all four wheels as needed. We bought a set of the dollies and can move the lift around the garage even with a vehicle on it. Ours works for all of our vehicles (FFR Roadster, F-150 Supercrew and a PT Cruiser.)

YOu'll find (sooner or later...) most guys have a BendPak. They are stout, reasonably prices and the customers service (esp/ for GJ guys!) is second to none. The Veep is a member here and comes in once in a while to show us what's new.
I have a HD9-XTW and absolutely LOVE it. I used to work in a shop with a 2 post and can say that the 4 post/drive on's are so much more versatile. As you said, for anything where you want the suspension loaded - or not - I bought the sliding jack for wheel and brake work. It's also great to be able to use it as storage or repairs.

Great shop you got -and WELCOME!

I have had a Backyard Buddy since 2003. I like the stability, strength and safety they engineered into it. I checked out every 4-post lift at "The Big Boy's Toys" commercial display at Reno's Hot August Nights that year and the Backyard Buddy was the only one that I couldn't make to shake when the ramps were raised. The house I bought back then already had a 25 X 50 detached shop and I didn't trust the strength of the floor to work with a two-post lift. I got the jack tray and an air jack to help with lifting a car once it is on the lift. I also use floor standing screw jacks to raise the axles when I'm working on wheels or brakes. My only complaint is that it doesn't work for dropping engines from below a car (I have a '68 Charger R/T) and it's a bit of a hassle to lift a body off a frame.

Vorstang, how serious is that Satelitte? Other than the 70 'Cuda, that is my favorite Mopar.

Great garage too.

Re: Gadkari must hold his ears and apologise

Nitin Gadkari has apologized for his slip of the idiom, but he is learning the rules of national politics the hard way. Every word is magnified and forgiveness does not come easy here. FF11 RMTGadkari's angry use of a Hindi phrase that likened Lalu Prasad and Mulayam Singh Yadav to dogs has created a political storm. リネージュ2 RMTMulayam's Samajwadi Party has taken the high moral ground and wants an explanation and Lalu Prasad has said he is taking this very seriously. アラド戦記 RMTGadkari's apology, he said was not enough and the RJD would campaign against him. The party has also announced that it will burn effigies of Gadkari across Bihar. He did say though that if Gadkari "held his ears and apologized, his party could think about forgiveness. aion RMTCondemning Gadkari's language Lalu said, "Gadkari needlessly abused Mulayam and me...We will teach him a lesson." He pointed out there had been other BJP leaders like Advani, who had even been arrested, but never had such words been heard. "Many people have used words against me in the past...But no one has ever used such words...I wonder how such a man can be BJP president," Lalu said.FF14 RMT
