I have that same jack. It is really cool the way it works. Its the Roll A Car 740. The brass plate with that info is on the lower cross bar where the handle release is located. My jack does not have the plate that tells you to clean with gasoline and lube every 30 days. Does yours? And if yours has it, where is it located. I don't see anywhere on mine where any plate could be missing, no empty rivet holes, etc. Still debating on whether to restore it like so many on here have done. It does work just fine and is complete as it is.

Cleaning and maybe restoring the jack is on my "to do list" but when I get to it I will check for the plate you mentioned.

The gasoline tag is located in the exact opposite location of the brass roll-a-car tag. On mine each is rivited on the flat pieces that attach to the handle

No evidence of there ever being a second tag on mine anywhere and I believe it to be completely original. Was found in an old mill by the guy I bought it from and was covered in grease, oil and sawdust which I think helped preserve it. I'll post some pix if I can figure it out, Luddite that I am. Just picked up a walker jump jack today. Mechanical, cool and some of the same dark blue paint as the 740. Thanks K and nic for checking on yours for me. K, your restore on the hydraulic is nice.

I have an older mechanical Walker that I restored a few years ago. I believe it's a 745 but I'm not certain about the model number.

I am new to the forum and have limited knowledge of the Walker jack I have (Mod 745 series E). My Father bought this jack (used) around 1949/1950. He passed in 1976 and the jack has been in storage until recently. I am now 77, retired and would like to restore the jack. It will go up but will not come down. Any info you can offer, web sites, books, would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Sounds like the valve is frozen to me-and my limited knowledge of jacks. It may need to be taken apart and at the minimum cleaned up-most a rebuild.

Mike

Sorry didn't know it was mechanical jack and not a hydro.

Can you post some close up pics of the area at the bottom of the handle, between there and the lifting arm? I'm sure we can figure out how to let it go down. Has a safety lock of some sort I'll bet.

Flip the peddle/ handle to the lower position. Next, just like jacking it up, jack it down. If it is well lubed and has a load on it, once going down, it will continue to jack itself down. Use caution when the handle is swinging on its own. I still use mine.

some one told me that these old jacks will only jack down if there is a load...Does anyone know if this is correct?
Thanks

454ragtop...I have been putting off doing anything with the old Walker Jack due to several reasons that I want go into now but I just carried the jack to a sand blaster to have all the rust removed. It has been in a shed since 1976 and was a total mess. As soon as these slow moving Georgia folks return the jack I will try to supply some photos.

It will jack down easily with something on with weight. If there is no weight then it will drop almost instantly after about a ratchet or two.

I remember as a young man in my teens this old jack worked as you described...when jacking down it would fall after a click or two..right now it will jack up but not down. It is now in the up position. Hopefully after the sandblasting and a little grease it will start working again.

Hi,
I also have a Walker 745 series E that has been in my family since atleast the 50s.
I have used it since i was a teen when it was my dads and has been mine for several years now and am thinking of restoring it.
Any info that would help would be greatly appreciated.
Where did you get the paint and what colors did you use?
Thanks!

Hi Nrtravis, what info are you looking for? As far as color goes that will be up to you. Mine is all red and probably came from a garage.
