I didn't know it wasn't a radio arm saw until I read this thread.

Am I stupid?

Sometimes we only know what we learn from our parents. My Dad is uneducated, has poor spelling and grammar skills. When he taught me how to use a radio arm saw when I was a kid I had no reason to doubt that is what it's called.

Spelling brakes -"breaks" as in " new break pads.

And how bout - "Hot water heater" Its a water heater, the water is not hot until after it has been heated. If anything, call it a cold water heater.

Uh, no, it's just a "cold" water heater, generally, only once in it's life. All the other times the water is hot, just not hot enough for the setting. Already stated in this thread.

Proper term for a device that takes in cold (relative) water and heats it to a usable temperature is a "water heater". There are "hot water heaters" - used when the hot water from another heater is needed at higher temperatures - one example is a heater taking in 120° water and heating it to 150° -180° for a commercial dishwasher. Used in hotels and restaurants allover the place.

The funeral business is real bad about saying, "Preplan your funeral."
nope, you cant do it. You can 'plan', but theres no such concept as 'preplanning'

Oh please. The water in my water heater is hotter than the water in my hot tub at full temp, when it is called upon to heat again. Guess that means I didn't really have a hot tub, but a cold tub, eh?:dunno: Bottom line is that when someone says hot water heater there is absolutely nothing wrong with it.

It's all relative., and mind over matter. If you don't mind someone calling it a hot water heater, it don't matter!:lol_hitti

This was a new one on me: "motor horse"

The ad said "Have a motor horse excellent condition"

I puzzled over that for a while. Then I came back later and found that the seller had added a picture.

"Motor horse" meant "engine hoist."

Makes me want to slap the schit out of someone.

Here in Southern California is a city named Murrieta.

Almost NO ONE is capable of saying Mer-E-etta. They all; including newscasters reporting stories from there weekly say MUIR-e-etta.

No, the town has nothing to do with John Muir, the naturalist.
"Small potatoes?" Yes, I don't know if it bugs me more that they say it this way or that NO ONE appears to notice....ever!

I don't know if it's been mentioned but I have an educated neighbor who constantly says, "I seen." It's like nails on a chalkboard.

And I've actually seen "Expresso" on more than one menu.

Yeah, both of those are pretty much inexcusable.

It happened a few posts back by someone posting in this thread. Unbelievable. The amount of people that say "seen" in place of "saw" is staggering.
