I tried searching and didn't come up with much (I have seen threads about this subject before).

I'll make this short and sweet I need to move my 73 nova around the garage and I was looking at the harbor freight dollies. They have the 1500 lbs for $40 with coupon or the 1000 lbs for $50.

All the reviews I saw said to lube up the bearings, and 50/50 of rubber or metal wheels (I think I would prefer rubber so I don't mark up my floors).

So that being said which of the two are better the car is sitting in 275 wheels in back and 165 in front (if that makes a difference), somebody I was talking with said they used the 1000lbs furniture dollies for years at their shop to move cars around ( that seamed sketchy at best.). What are you all a thoughts?

Hey have you thought about making a dolly? Do you weld? I made a few for my garage that can hold extensive weight, and I was able to really secure the casters on there.

I have a video on my build of it if you are interested in seeing it.

Good luck in your searches.

HF posted my review on the better dollies, but didn't post the one where I recommend the 12x18 furniture dollies.

Problem on the "car dollies" is that the wheels are super crappy....off center axle bore, and they do not roll smoothly on the axle either.

GOOD casters are expensive. I'm using mine to move a Malibu less drivetrain and front sheetmetal, so far, so good. Also only into them for $36

There were no steel/iron wheel dollies in stock at either local store, my impression is that they have been replaced with the plasic/rubber ones.

IF you're going to buy them use the coupon from the coupon site, the "better" ones are 39.99/pr with coupon.

How long did it take to flat spot?

as soon as you put weight on them ! They are almost impossible to move once they sit for a while with weight on them.

On the steel dollies, the caster stem is crimped into the 4 bolt flange and pulls thru over a few weeks as they sit loaded.

That's the coupon I have, my car is intact minus the interior (I have the from seats in) that being said would it be worth getting 4 of the better Dolly's of getting 4 furniture Dolly's. Mall I will be using them for is to finish getting the car in primer (a few more spots of body work, and then spray primer block and repeat)

I bought the black metal dollies when I had my 69 chevelle in a mini storage. needed to push the car sideways all the way to the wall. the car was complete and drivable. just needed it tight to one side to access the items stored in the rear of the unit. they worked although it took a " fair " amount of effort to push the car sideways.

I bought the 1500 lb. dollies last year. They had the steel wheels and they work very well. I decided to buy another set this year, same model, to put my 73 mustang on. These had plastic wheels and were junk. Two of us couldn't move the car. I took them back and the store manager asked what the problem was and I told him about the difference in the two sets and he said I guess that's one more thing they cheapened up. I found a set on Amazon that has ball bearings on the swivels and the wheels and they work fine.

GOJaks

Soft wheels will not roll with any weight on them. They have to be a very hard plastic or metal to roll easily.

I used a set of my neighbors GoJaks a couple of times, they worked great. Finally found a set on CL and went and got them. $350. They had some bad casters but otherwise were in very good condition. I cleaned and lubed them and replaced the bad casters (another $200 or so) with genuine GoJak casters and used them just last week to move the Mustang while cleaning the shop.
