Ok so I ordered some things off of tools delivered at the suggestion of another member here on GJ. Tools delivered is awesome they were able to get my order to in 2 days time. I ordered 3/8 impacts for my new makita and in the set they sent me 2 9 mm instead of an 8 and 9 mm. Contacted snap on industrial, they didn't want any pictures just my order number told me toss out the extra socket and had me an 8mm at my house within 2 days.

I'm not a douche, I dont think, so it wasn't a big deal to me, all in all i got the whole set and a replacement in shorter time then it would have took any tool truck to deliver. My socket set started as old cman USA and as some got lost or stolen or whatever, I've replaced them with random individual sockets from whatever was most convenient when I realized it was gone.

I have got a mac box now to keep things organized but I want to start replacing my socket sets with William's. What I gather is they dont offer 1/4 impacts which is no problem, but there 1/2 6 point set is all made in Taiwan. You can get the 12 point in us. I'd like to keep it all one brand as I've realized how annoying it is to have a bunch of different kinds especially when your looking for a stamped size on one that's different then the others.

Anyone use the 1/2 William's Taiwan in a professional setting? Anyone ever abuse the 1/2, dont judge me but I can take a old cman socket, slap it on a cheap 36t junker ratchet, slide a pipe over it and maybe or maybe not break something, but the old cman sockets never broke. I've done this with junk sockets and have the whole sidewall crack and spit out a section. I know that this is something noone should do, its unsafe, stupid of me, careless, I better not warranty it, I get it. But if I'm going to replace my set now, I want to replace it with a set I could do that too should I decide too. I'd rather see my ratchet break then my socket.

So with the William's Taiwan sockets hold up to the time and demands of years of abuse and neglect, or should I choose another brand?

If you're actually worried about breaking modern industrial sockets it's time to go a drive size bigger.

Nothing wrong with Taiwan Williams. I was in the same boat you were in and wanted my 1/2" 6 point and USA. I went with Blackhawk.

If you decide to go Taiwan I think Tekton are the best value but Carlyle have the best feature set.

Glad your order went mostly smoothly!

I have a buddy who is a diesel mechanic who ordered the Williams tawain sockets after playing with my US Williams sockets. He also has snap on 1/2 drive sockets.

He’s been happy with his Williams Taiwan set, he made the statement its definitely good enough to save the money over a snap on set. He’s only had it about a month now. He plans on swapping to the snap on industrial stuff to fill out his snap on box.

Today he’s going to take a few of my supercombo wrenches to compare with a different friends snap on during a engine swap.

Keep in mind that Williams Taiwan made tools are the same tools branded Blue Point sold off the Snap on truck in many cases so, i think you'll be fine.

Made in Taiwan Williams looks suspiciously similar to Blue Point and I haven't heard anyone complain about the quality of blue point hard line tools. I honestly wouldn't be worried too much about the durability of sockets and wrenches. Even the cheap ones don't break that often. I'd be far more concerned about stuff you know will eventually break like ratchets, swivel impacts, and bit sockets.

I had a feeling you'd show up, I am gonna give them a shot and should I need to replace them I'll use individual snappys. I'd like to have the nice chrome and USA stamp but I dont want it at the added expense of $600.

Tools delivered is awesome, I have snap on ratchets and some better us cman I abuse. I might try out some of there 36 tooth ratchets and see how much torture they can take. I dont do much heavy duty with my snap-on ones as I dont want the anvil to break off. Which makes me wonder what I bought them for in the first place :lol_hitti

6 point becomes less and less required the bigger you get.

If you're not really using 1/2" impact on smaller sizes, just get the US 12 point and worry about 6 point when you find your 1/4" impacts.
