Just finished building a simple set of 2 x 8 Doug fir ramps for my E350 van, mostly to load up lawn and garden equipment. The ramps are too slick, especially if the wheels are wet and muddy. Looking to give the ramps more traction. I could tape down some of the grippy tape, glue down cross pieces, or other some such thing, but I would rather paint it with a non-slip coating.

My questions are would one of the typical non-skip paint additives work in this situation? They don't seem grippy enough. Second, I've got a ton of leftover paint, and clean sandbox sand. Would putting them together work?

Thoughts?

I used the non tabs half of shingles on my loading ramp for getting stuff in and out of pick up's. Just nailed them on the boards with roofing nails. They have held up just fine for 2.5 years. The only one I have to replace every once in a while is the last one at the top of the ramp where things may catch on it loading and unloading with different height pick up's. Actually I got a bundle of shingles brought right to my house when I asked if anyone has an unused bundle on our neighborhood FB page. Cheap, no maintenance, and durable solution. I'll post some pics in the morning.

This. I do this on built in ramps to shed and garage. Roof shingles also take paint well.

Hadn't thought of the shingle solution. Got a couple hundred square in my shed right now, might as well put them to work.

2 years ago a new owner painted the roof of a house around the corner. I thought they were doing it to flip but they've stayed in the house. It still looks kinda ****** on a house but the paint looks the same as it did when they first did it.

Wow, something new everyday. Never heard of or thought about painting an asphalt shingle roof.
