I've got an old Hammer, I've had it for years, I think it came from my Grandfather (born in the 1870's) it is oddly shaped, the handle looks home made as well. I cleaned it up a little today.
I make out the words "W.P. Allison Warranted"
I Goggled Allison and only came up with this link, Apparently he was from Connecticut and made tools......
Tools Made: Edge Tools. Hammers, axes and chisels
Working Dates: C1827-75. Born 1806, Died 1875.

Here are some photos, anyone with any more information on this company?? Or this hammer?? What it was used for, etc. The handle is too short for productive carpentry plus there is no nail pull claw, just a flat curved surface.
Cobbler?
Some long extinct trade?
Thanks!
Dave
