AFAIK, no one is. Grip on/Snap on/Proto (via spain) are the best I have found. I'm testing out a pair of Tektons, so far they're doing pretty well.

There is supposed to be a new company starting production at the old facility in Dewitt, not sure how far off they are. There is a thread on here somewhere about it.

They can get off as fast as they like. It was garbage 50 years ago and still will be with the same tooling.

I doubt they are going to use the same tooling as most of that went to China with Irwin. Also, why would it take three years to simply start up a factory using the same tools that were already in place. Malco typically does things very right. That's why they are the leader in HVAC tools. I would be surprised if the new tools were duds considering the quality of the rest of their line. I just wish they would bring these to market sooner as both Milwaukee and Harbor Freight are now selling really good Taiwanese Vice Grips.

Yeah the Bremen vise grips are good.

The finish on my Grip On set isn't very good

I'm sorry you were not satisfied with your 1968 vise grips purchase.

That has jack to do with what will be coming out in the future though.

Read the article before you comment, Malco is bringing in all new equipment, the tooling was moved out by previous owners.
Malco is interested in the skilled workforce available.

Malco Eagle Grips are going to be good. My cousin works for Malco at another plant and recently toured the old Dewitt factory, sounds like things are coming along well...

^ This is good news, I don’t have many but every Malco tool I have is top notch. I have two pairs of the crimpers for stove pipe, and I thank the tool gods every time I replace my furnace pipe. Also have a pair of tin snips that make my older Wiss look and feel like ****.

I get American made Vise-grips at my local flea market. Don't reject them if rusty, dirty, chrome peeling. u can get new springs for them if needed over the internet. Examine the teeth carefully. Are the teeth worn (useless) or just filled with gunk. I've seen the metal fatigued above the joint. You can get them for a song especially if you develop a friendship over time with the dealer. Honestly I never pay more than a few bucks for them. I hope you have a flea market near you. I always look forward to seeing what tools i can find. The plating on the USA made ones were much better than the Chiwandia ones.

My Petersen Vise Grips from the 1940's are still more precise and have a more positive locking action than anything that is sold in stores today. Not sure what your experience has been, but it doesn't match the majority. :headscrat

I buy most of mine from estate sales or auctions. Still plenty of them out there. Yes, some have been badly abused and neglected. Twisting objects with a need nose will destroy them.

I spoke to the guys at Epstien's last month who have been in contact with the rep from Malco... sounds like they have had some delays but are still moving forward. It's a big deal for that area of Nebraska as they have lost a lot of manufacturing jobs. Good to see a company like Malco investing some money into the area.
