Any caution involved changing a 6-30 to 6-50 plug?

After reading through this thread I realized my plug was also over-rated so I removed the 50a crows foot plug from the wire going to my heater and wired it direct instead. I would agree that it seems like a much better solution as the plug is no longer over rated for the electrical device it is supplying power to.

Excellent! ;)

But you really should secure that wire with a few wire staples for safety...

Unplug the welder plug when you don't want the heater powered up or use something like the box listed below and just flip the breaker off and leave the it all plugged in. No need to unplug the welder plugin, just flip the breaker.

I used this box so I could put a breaker in it so when/if something does happen I don't have to buy fuses. There is nothing wrong with the box you posted and it will serve the same purpose.

The box I used was a Square D QO200TRCPP with a Square D QO230 breaker inside. Total for both at the local Menards was less than $25.

OK, again in this. If I bought this cord and plug..

and cut in 1/2 (don't need a lotta length) and plug to disconnect, rest out to a 6-30 female outlet. Yes, No?

But if I need 4 wire, what would I do with the plug as its 3 wire? Link box I'm thinking about

But Questions ask this.

Question:
There are no examples anywhere how to wire this. I'm assuming both positives on one side, both negatives on other. Correct ?
Answer:
You need 4 wires to meet code. 10 gauge 30 amp, 12 gauge 20 amp Two hots (place each hot leg on the correct hot lug / should be 2 separate connections for 220 volts), 1 neutral (white: this goes on the neutral bar), 1 ground (green: typically grounds the metal enclosure / double check code requirements for proper grounding)

There is a reason for the enginers and licences, why would they bother if it was so simple a caveman could do it?

We're not nearly as smart as you'd like to think we are...

This is how I wired my breaker box.

Well guys, I REALLY appreciate the time and effort for the help. But as I got always a active brain that has "a idea" but somehow going though the "gearbox" after thinking it more.."Does not compute" Original thought was to try the $100 4800 watt to see what would it would do heat. If halfass good, upgrade to 10,000 watt or more. Wood BS the heat is getting old and cost and time? I pay 9 cents KWH, so little if any increase and care less anyway. What did I say about "spend $3 to save a buck"? Well, I'm never to old to learn.

Plan now is shitcan the old idea, and do it right. "Never enough time to do it right the first time, but plenty time to do it right second time" Not gonna waste time and nickle/dime/mickey mouse something.

Gonna go large here, buy a permanent hard wired 50 amp required AND HAVE A ELECTRICIAN DO THE hook up. PROPER! Makes ya sleep better at night.

Thanks again all, as we all learn something every damn day. Its the cool rainy season PNW, and simple bored. Soon? Shop door open, bikes out, as one my 3 boats and forget all about it..(until next winter!) Pic my shop, and a 15 foot I rigged up, crank up rebuild Merc (some say overpowered? BS! To MUCH aint enough:D) But some my toys first.

Leave ya with this. When I hear "electricity isn't rocket science"? BS! Do it wrong and .."rocket ya on yer *** FAST" "stick a fork in here and...(tasers are kids stuff compared 220/50)! Pix some my junk. Thanks again all;)

The boat build next..thats the frame up Dragbike I built 25 years ago, still sitting here but pickled.
