Any S-K toolbox restorations????

Hey guys.....
We've got Snap-On toolbox restoration threads and Craftsman toolbox restoration threads, etc......But, are there any S-K toolbox restoration threads anywhere?
I tried this forum's search function and found zilch, na-da, nothing.....

I'm mostly curious as to what kind of paint do S-K guys use?.....Is the S-K green color easy to find or duplicate in rattle-cans?....In hammer finish?

This is what I'm looking to restore.....nothing big, just these two little boxes...
S-K1.jpg S-K2.jpg

I'd like to refinish them as close as possible within reason to original???

Thanks in advance, and post-up pics of your S-K box restorations and techniques (plus, what kind of paint you used :)) here if you'd like......it might become the only thread the search function will find on S-K......:dunno:

Somebody sent me a S-K color match receipt a couple of years ago (maybe Username) and I never tried it so no guarantee but here is a copy of the receipt.

That's good info to have. I have a couple of the same type of small boxes that need restored. If I don't find the time soon, I may offer them to someone who has the time.

Please post pictures of the finished project.

Wonder what era that green color recipe covers? I have two "modern" 1990s boxes that are close but not the same shade...both are stored in same toolbox so sun fading is probably not a factor. However, my grandfather's vintage Sherman-Klove marked box is very different, though it is seriosly faded from wear, age, sunlight, etc.

That was me. I laid down VHT wrinkle finish per the directions. Baked it in an oven. I brought home a junk oven for this because I had to cut the inner walls out. Then topcoated w the S/W paint. Matched GREAT

Here's one that's been listed on the local Craigslist for awhile that needs a bit of restoration.

I cleaned up and painted a vintage SK socket set box. I used hammered green Rust-Oleum. It was a CLOSE
match. I would prefer it to be a bit darker. The wrinkle finish ones seem to be painted first with a wrinkle finish paint dark in color, then painted over with the correct green color, according to what other members have done. Why can't there just be a SK dark green in wrinkle finish that is a close match? I didn't use period correct color for my box, but it is what I wanted. Check it out.

So I decided to continue repairs on my sk box. Did the vht wrinkle coat and painted drawers dark green, but color seems a bit off.

The paint code I used that is in post 3 was for an early box. Almost an “army” green. But almost a semi gloss. Over the VHT

Ya I think this is too glossy

I can’t see the paint code picture but I bought it at a Sherwin Williams store. They scanned the bottom of the drawers to match it. They couldn’t replicate the wrinkle finish well. I sprayed the green using a cheap HPLV gun.

Went with this camo green from autozone. No color left on tag so painted it black and sanded the high spots

Here's a couple of socket boxes that I refurbished and cleaned up a little, and the two shaker can colors I used.

Here's a 1/2" drive socket box that had a rusted out corner and was gonna be given up for scrap. But I talked the guy into giving it to me and I salvaged it. Some major metal work, then painted to cover.

Ive got one in the garage that needs a bunch of work, and might be too far gone. I didn't pay much for it so no big loss if I can't do it. Mostly going to use it for overflow and maybe storage in the basement.

I'll try to post pics at some point.

Some great looking restorations going on in here. Good job!
I started on this box. But by started, I mean I just took it apart and forgot that I was working on it.
Perhaps this thread will renew my motivation.

That one looks pretty straight

Yes, fortunately, it is.
There's a pretty big dent on the top right in the image, and someone welded a hasp/lock on the right side of the box. It's been rattle bombed red over red with overspray everywhere. The back side of a couple of drawers are pretty bend up too.
Shouldn't take too much. Other projects got in the way.
