We have a hardtop on the Jeep that we take off every spring. Here's how i made some modifications in our garage to safely remove the hardtop without damaging the garage trusses.
The previous owner of our home had a beam made of multiple 2x6's set-up above the truss lower chords in the attached garage.
It is physically attached to a post that goes to the floor, where the beam and wall intersect. The free end of the beam is a concern to me, since any weight bears against the lower truss chords. To remedy this we bought a
Tiger Brand Super S Series 8 ft. 4 in. Jack Post to install on the free end of the beam. This will only be installed temporarily when the hoist is being used, and then removed.
I installed a small electric winch on the beam and built a rolling cart which we will set the Jeep hard top on.
