Does anyone use red elm for firewood, I have a tree that fell and hate to waste a good sized tree. It has been down about a year, my plan is to cut and split then mix with red and white oak.
Does it hold up to being stored in the dry, it will be a couple of years before I would need it or would it need burned sooner?

Red Elm is good for like Spring / fall. it does not burn as hot as Oak, it also has a distinct smell to it.

It does smoke a little more then oak and ash. Id use it if its well seasoned

I'm with those who burns anything that isn't a pine type. I have cut many "tree of wonder" on my property. It's crappy wood, soft and no strength, but when dry it burns. Heat output my be low, but it's free.

I like it. Burns decent when seasoned a couple years. Splits well and the bark is usually falling off already after a couple months in the round. Standing, barkless dead are great!

I have burned red/slippery elm in my stove and it worked well if it was well dried for 2 years.

I wouldn’t burn it in a fire place due to the smell of piss

It does smell less if well dried.

A closely related species is Siberian elm which has the nick name of piss elm. I can’t tell if one smells worse than the other.

I do not understand your question. A cardboard Box's full of wood???? How big is this box? what type of wood?

Most realistic backyard setups with a standard rocket stove (no large thermal mass), using just one box + wood is unlikely to get you continuous heat for a full week. It might get you through some days, or through the cold hours each night, but expect some drop-off.
