Anyone clear coated a driveway?

Hey Guys,

Once my garage is complete, I'll have a new parking pad outside and driveway with it. I get a lot of leaky UPS/FedEx trucks dropping of packages and most of my daily drivers leak oil. I was thinking of clearing the driveway to protect it.

Has anyone else done this, and do you have any suggestions for DIY products? Since the concrete will be fresh, I can hopefully knock if out easily.

thomsons water seal?

i threw that on a concrete sidewalk (path) and it lasted for quite awhile. not too long though (maybe a year, esp. not after a winter full of shoveling and salts).

would be curious to hear what other options are out there.

only option is an acrylic...there are a few formulas, some better than others.

Tell them not to park on your property. I figured that was part of their gig. If they drip oil, I'd have it cleaned and send them the bill. I make sure all my vehicles dont drip anything for that reason. You make a mess, you deserve to clean it. I have no interest in paying for a customers driveway to be leaned because of my lack of vehicle maintenance. That being said, I carry insurance for that reason - of something like that can even go under insurance...

Avoid Thompsons. It's mostly paraffin. Acrylics will give you better protection, and you typically get what you pay for. The least expensive option is cure and seal - avoid this. Let us know if you want help with suggestions.

Here's a suggestion....

instead of clear get a tinted epoxy,

one half of my asphalt drive, I've painted as a walkway.
I had some problems and recently re-did it, using
Epoxysheild, (tinted sandlewood,) from Home Depot.

(no mix single part epoxy - which sounds wierd)

I was worried it would be slippery, but after the rain, it wasn't
must be specially formulated.

Anyway something to think about.

I have used 2 products on my driveway to seal them up over the years. I first used Industra Gloss SB and then Super Seal 30. Both products gave me a good gloss finish to the exposed aggregate and stamped concrete. This is a finish that will squeak when you walk on it with wet sneakers. It's not scientific but that squeak tells me it's sealed. You will need to reseal the concrete every 2-3 years. The newer the seal the better it seals against drips from vehicles. That's why I reseal it every few years. Either product work good. Coverage was as advertised. These products are acrylic based and I have been very pleased with either. Cost is high but you get what you pay for. I could not find anything comparable at my local building supply store.
