As we all know channel locks is the commonly used name for "those types " of pliers. As a young man that style was known to me as slip-grove pliers but now they seem to be called tongue and grove. Did I miss something or have the mellineals changed that name too?

I’m a millennial and I learned the generic name was “(water) pump pliers” so idk

NW, are you confusing "Slip joint pliers" for the "Slip Groove"? I've never heard of the latter - but that could be a regional thing?

I heard CL's also called Arc Joints (for other brands) but some also used the slip joint tech as well, in an extended manner.

As a general class we called them "Water Pump Pliers", probably from Ag/Farm usage?

That's just marketing and Wikipedia, (anyone can create or edit a Wikipedia page -I've edited them myself - created many in companies I work(ed) at...)

Don't get me started on marketing people...

I agree, tongue and groove is a wood joint...

My grandfather, who has been dead for over 20 years, called them tongue and groove pliers.

Yeah I agree and usually I can’t get the big ones in a lot of places cause the head is too big so I almost always use a regular unless I just don’t have that size and can’t borrow it from anybody.

Got this set of pliers from Circle C supply for around $70. Bought the wrench around the same time. They have all served me very well so far.

My first negative experience with Channellock pliers.

Big fan of Channellock, but these just don't work out for me. Minor cosmetic issues are not a problem, but I find that the comfort grip handles pinch my hand. May give the dipped handle version a try.

They do look pinchy. I only have the dipped handles. And I don't have the new "E" series.

I've seen racks of the Channellocks long nose in stores. I can tell you that the difference in jaw thickness isn't one of a kind. At first, I thought it might just be an illusion because of differences in the grinding that is done by hand. But it's not. They are different thickness. Klein long nose also had the same problem recently. I've looked at racks full of the Klein pliers also. Fortunately none of my pliers from either company had these problems. Hopefully both companies got it sorted.
