OK. I'll have to look for a set of those. I was going to get a set of nut drivers off Snap-On, but they're kinda expensive and this is one tool that I think really wouldn't be any better from Snap-On...

ZerOcell makes a good point. Your NOS Channellock collection is really great! It's gotta be the best I've seen. Your NOS Channellock tools are so nice I'd be afraid to use them. I mean they're only NOS once. Do you use any of them? I have one NOS Channellock in a plastic pouch and I don't use it. Do you have duplicate "user" Channellocks?

Hey Jim,
I mostly use the Channellocks that are not NOS that I have. I've also got lots of other USA Made pliers that I use like Kraeuter, Klein and Craftsman so that I don't have to use the NOS Channellocks!!

Confession time......I went to an estate sale last year and left many standard 420 channel locks at the sale ($2 a pair). I already had a lifetime supply but I did buy another five or so. The guy had a fetish for them and he either bought them new and used the heck out of them or was a flea marketer and could never walk past them.
Well maybe its good you left a few good deals for the next guy at the sale. Then again, you could have bought them all and thrown a few deals our way!

I picked up this pair of #440 Channellocks a few days ago passing through my local Home Depot. Another impulse buy. It probably won't be the last one. Well, I guess I could have spent $15 on dumber things. Anyway, what I did notice about my new pair of #440s is that its jaws are a lot thicker than the jaws on my old #442 Channellocks that I bought about a dozen years ago. (See picture below. #440 on left, #442 on right). I'm still a "blue fan."

Jim, pic of those two in profile? What is the difference between them? Straight vs curved jaw?

Yes, the #440s on the left are straight jaw, and the #442s on the right are V jaw. I have a pair of #420s (straight) and #422s (V) that are recent purchases in the last couple years, and the thickness of the 420s and the 422s are the same.

BIG thanks to Channellock and Jeff Moss for my recent additions. I got the 5 pouch plier roll from Channellock and a empty blue pouch for #48 from Jeff. I found some NOS pliers to go in the pouch, I just haven't purchased them yet. More on the way...

What I liked in Channellock 349: joint thickness, the crosshatched jaws and specially the high power to cut.
I cutted large nails like butter. Power close to Knipex Cobolt. Amazing power!

Marcio, thanks for the details. I'm glad to hear it cuts nails pretty well, and especially about the weight. In my mind, all linemans are "heavy" for work that spans many hours so a lighter model would be great.
The kleins I have are model J2000-9NE. Klein website link I just mentioned them as a comparison. They're kinda pricey but I bought them to cut nails and other harder things and they do it pretty well so far.

Here is what I have. The last picture is my ball pein Channellock stubby handled hammer. It is the black sheep of my Channellock family since it is painted red, and it doesn't like to be photographed with the blue stuff. Even so, I couldn't help but tease it by adding an "almost Channellock blue" body dolly in the same picture. For relative size reference, the pliers on the right of the first picture are the 20" 480 Big Azz pliers, and the oil filter pliers also shown in that picture are the 15" long 215s.
If you look closely you might see some of mods I have done to many of these tools.
1- White tape on plier handles represent a narrowed plier jaw for really tight areas.
2- A couple of the pliers have had the jaws smoothed completely so they don't mar fittings.
3- Quite a few of the more commonly used pliers have had the outer edges smoothed off so the pliers more easily slip in and out of pockets or tool pouches without wearing on the material or catching.
4- A couple pairs of pliers have been heavily smoothed off. I use them when working around wood floors etc. so if they are accidentally dropped they make a gentle and easy to remove dent in the floor instead of a sharp nick that can't easily be fixed.
5- I reshaped the crimper jaws to close more fully, and added a stop pin to the wire crimpers so the handles can't open beyond the reach of my fingers.
6- I just finished modifying the front channel edge of one of my new 14" nutbuster pliers so they will work better with larger pipe, and so the handles can close together instead of staying apart at all times. You might be able to see it in the picture. The top one now has a much thinner lip along the front edge of the channel area.
There are probably other mods, but I can't remember them right now. Enjoy

I'm not quite sure. Ive seen them posted on this forum several times and Ive been on the lookout since. Now that I actually have them, I want more. Damn you GJ! Damn you too Channellock!
Your channellock collection is impressive. I think mine are going back into the package until I can find some more. Is that crazy? What do these locking pliers normally go for? I picked them up for $29 + shipping ($40 total). Looking at what other grip-on pliers are going for, I dont feel too bad.Yes, they are very nice! Mine are still in the package!!
