Does anyone know if the Channellock 910 cable and wire cutters can cut thru the wires of a chain link fence?

Getting back to cutting the chain link fence: Are you cutting to separate a piece from a roll or section?

If so, much easier than cutting is to get some slack on the fence, un-bend the lock for the string the connects the two sections, and you can simply "unscrew" the connecting wire. Fast and clean and nearly no effort. Electrician's pliers work well for the un-bending

The loose wire can be re-wound into the execs section when done for no waste.

If you are cutting an access hole, then you need the cutters.

These appear to have hardened steel inserts in them so I would also think it should do the job.

Haven't checked in a while.. These look very similar to the Midwest brand tools..... Wonder if Channel Lock is sub contracting to them, or purchased them or maybe a really good copy... or ??

I put up a lot of fence with the Channellock fencing pliers. They are great for holding staples, bending wire, etc... but for cutting wire I use my Knipex mini bolt cutters (notched). I do wish I had the version with the spring in the handles.

This was all 12.5ga woven wire fence and 12.5ga high tensile wire. Would kill your hand after a day of using those to cut.

Maybe its because my pair is pretty new (just got the Channellocks to replace a cheap pair of Jobsmart) but mine have no problem cutting 12.5 gauge high tensile wire. I totally agree the mini bolt cutters cut it much easier but my Channellocks are able to cut it pretty easy. I have 3000' of high tensile to put up the next couple weeks so we'll see how they do.

How about a Channellock machinist's hammer?

Nice old hammer. I seem to recall that Channellock did offer hammers at one time, but I don't remember when, and I don't know when they were dropped from their product line. Maybe some else will have more information regarding Channellock hammers.

I have three of their Ball Peens.. a 1 oz, a 4 oz, and a 10 oz. One is marked Champion DeArment so it goes back awhile, or they got into hammers got out, then back in, then out again?.:dunno:

Hey metaldad,

I've never seen a Channellock tool roll like that. Great find!!! What era do you think it's from? You mentioned that the adjustable wrench is unmarked. Do you think it's original to the set/tool roll?

Hi Jim

No ideal of the era, but maybe the drivers would narrow down the timeline?

Pretty sure I've see the wrench pattern, so likely made for CL by someone else. I'm just not connecting the pattern to the maker just now...

the adjustables are channey blue, no marking.
the drivers, if they are original to the roll, are, to my knowledge, 1st generation USA. 60's maybe.
i am going to contact the factory for any info.
the combos? thorsen? not familiar with the beam styling.
i know realize, i only took 1 pic. ill take more detailed, later.
and, thanks, guys

been busy, took some pics. and yes Noah, that generation of channey driver (handle) is identical pre klein vaco, except these two are deteriorating, unlike the 8 or 9 i already have of that style. bonus - i did not have a 1/4 x 4 before.
the 6'' adjustable, has no markings. opens to 15/16. the irega channey 6'' opens to 1''.
the pliers, 426, 420, 435, 516, are like new.
the combos, have no dirt in the boxes. looks only like drawer rash. not all are stamped 'USA'. just the 3/8, 5/8, 3/4, 13/16, 7/8, 15/16. all are stamped only on 1 side.
3/4 combo is a hair longer than a cman rp. and a little thicker

vaco driver, next to a 'first(?) gen channey driver. flutes on the handles are identical.
ignore the larger channey on the right
or mebbe the large channey on the right, is a different generation, which would then count as 3 USA, 2 china, and the current USA production, which would make 6

Metaldad.. very nice set..

Jeeper 46, dang..another item to keep my eyes peeled for at the flea market..

I picked up Little Champ E42S end cutter and E50S long nose / snipe needle nose pliers from HJE on Friday.. Great adds to the collection.. Immediately put the end cutters to work in my garage tetris session this morning...

good one, Jeff.
thanks, Dennis
ok, i think i stand corrected, on the gens of channey drivers.
could be 8, or more. someone correct me, if i am wrong.
the clear blue handle, seems to be 2 styles, both USA. the vaco copy, of which I have 5, or, the bigger handle, differently shaped flutes, of which i have 4
the solid blue, and a copy of them, in black, both USA
the code blue chinese, black, and red grips.
USA cushion grip, black shanks, looks like ideal/klein grips.
and present USA production.
all of the USA models came in either black oxide(?), or chrome shanks, except current production, and clear blue, which are chrome.
please add input, or correct if i am wrong.

Dennis,

Great deal for $3. The #718 is one of my most frequently used pairs of Channellocks.
