I have my snap on needle nose, and I my channellocks brand needle nose. I prefer the channeelock brand ones a hole lot more than snap on.

Well, it's a public forum and that's his experience. No big deal. I haven't had any rust issues with Channellocks, but then again my shop is heated in the winter and has AC in the summer, so the temperature is pretty consistent all year. I have seen Channellocks, and other tools, kept in unheated garages, work trucks, etc. that are rusted. I think any tool that's exposed to temperature changes, condensation and moisture over a period of time is going to have some potential to rust. For the money, I still think Channellocks are a good buy.

Years ago, CL didn't do anything to protect their exposed steel... at least today they do coat them. Keep them clean and coated with commercially available materials that help rust protect them in hi condensation environments (as I have in my garage) and they seem to not rust much if at all.. Something like Starrett M1 or Fluid Film or similar... Until they get a patina of their own like the old ones I have from my dad, it takes a bit of intervention.

Hadn't been on this thread is a few weeks (months?) and just caught up. I had an older (Code Blue?) set of small model #30 diagonal cutters break over the weekend. My son was using them as we were rewiring my sister's place. I contacted CL and they're going to replace them with the E41S Little Champ equivalent... So I'm happy in the long run. The #30 were produced in Germany.. and came from my Uncle's estate over 10 years ago, so might have predated the Code Blue brand....

Received my replacement Little Champs today....Thank You CL

Thanks..

I wonder what drove the manufacture of these out of Meadville..... and when.. Any ideas?

oak_park gave me a channey catalogue, it might be dated 1981.
they list 4,6,8,10,12,15 as sizes. the pic in the book looks like the 806 in your first pic - so - no visual of the 'USA' which may or may not have been on the reverse

Just used my GL12s for replacing a frost faucet in the back of our house (leaky), weird size @ 13".. So had to use a ******, etc. This set of ChannelLocks really came in handy in a tight space needing plenty of leverage.

OK, I've been trying to clean these up; soaked them for a week in wd-40, worked them to get the oil into the joints, got a lot of the rust out.

Now they are loose, of course; the edges of the cutters are dull; and the slip-joints have a bad habit of binding.

What's so great about this brand, again?

I don't know..... I guess any tool, regardless of brand, that needs a week's worth of soaking in oil to get it moving again may have been neglected/abused/misused. That might negatively impact the way they ultimately function. Just my thinking. Channellock offers a pretty good USA made tool for the money. That's what's good about the brand.

They've been sitting unused in my grandfathers shop for at least 10 years; in a tool box, not exposed to weather, and he probably used them all of 5 times.

They moved when I found them, but not easily or smoothly; now they flop loosely and even wiggle the wrong way around the joint.

I have some 20-year-old $3 pliers from the parts store that have been left out in the weather, abused, etc, and while they aren't great, they are no worse than these.

Okay, stick with the $3 pair then.

Did Channellock actually make their own adjustables when they were USA made, or have them contract made by someone else like how their current offerings are made in Spain?

Also, just disregard Codejack...he's here on this forum to hear himself talk. He's such a cheap skate you think he'd be in love with pliers that cost him nothing. But I'm sure those chinese Stanleys are much better:thumbup:

I've been looking for a pair of those new center cutters. They look pretty good. If you buy a pair, post a few pics and let us know if you like them.
