sThis Channellock pliers was handed down to me. It's not old enough to be marked Champion but it's old. Any of you know how old? It has 1949, 1953 and 1965 patents on the handle.

Are these made in PA or are the an extension of their branding blitz that appears to be going on through HWI hardware stores (around me anyway..)..

I have a pair of 420s and the little 4 inch channel locks. Picked these up yesterday. Small oil filter pliers for work and the 6 inch cutters for my wife.

(b)LOWES has the Channellock 4 piece set with screwdriver for $24 or with bottle opener for $25. Amazon had the same price briefly but they jacked the price back up to around $45.

The 3 pliers are made in the USA. The screwdriver is made in China.

Licensed product. These two examples are manufactured in Mexico.

Looks like more of the brand-lease to Do it Best (so, yeah, HWI).

That's only a few bucks more than the regular price of the 440s alone. The 440s (12 inch) are my most often used blue handled tool. I don't need any more copies of the smaller sizes, but it's a good deal if you do.

Had to break out the 410 and 414 pliers the other day. I don't use them often, but when I do, they seem to be the only pliers that get the job done.

Is there a timeline buried in these 126 pages or on another website? I'm wondering what years the marking switched from a "Meadville, PA" stamp to a "Made in USA" stamp to a laser etch "Made in USA".

I don’t know the answer to your question, but I’m glad they’re still being made in the USA.

Me too. I've been on a little Channellock shopping binge recently and noticed that I've bought pliers with all three marks. They were all bought new but some may have been old stock.

According to the website Permalock was patented in 1984.

CL is still in business, so it may be worth asking them? :dunno:

I assumed it was an easy answer for the experts on the forum but you're right that I could send an email to the manufacturer.

Great teeth on these pliers. Sorta like a "talon grip".

Those do look nice, what pliers are those from?

I don’t have many Channellock pliers after upgrading but I still love my needle nose pliers from them the E318 and use the concrete nippers all the time when taking out nails. And of course there oil filter pliers are super strong and slim.

5410, 548, 546, 537, and 516. I don't have the 537.

Here's a comparison of the 546/8/10. The 546 and 548 are very similar except for the handle length.

The 546 and 516 are similar except the 516 is narrower.
