Same as hautpot, alllllllll the time. It's a great resource for finding specialty tools at much cheaper prices. You just have to have patience.

I am a used tool reseller though I don't do ebay yet. Just a store in Maryland.

Ebay pretty much defines the market for used tools. Snap on will routinely bring 50% of retail for current, good shape tools. Sure there are lots of exceptions.

Note, many folks here will buy on ebay for tools. Its a great resource.

Constantly. I buy lots of good quality tools on eBay for significantly less than any other retailer offers. I've gotten new Proto socket sets for half of what Amazon/Zoro/Whatever asks for them, same with SK flare wrench sets. Even bought a complete USA made OTC ball joint press kit (small kit with only a few adapters) for around $45. Complete with all parts, manual, and case.

All the time with a 50/50 split between the big vendors like Zoro who sell there and small sellers. I was an early Ebay adopter, back when the deals could be really incredible. My feedback rating is over 800 between buying and selling, and many purchases and some sales are not rated so I suspect I've done over 1000 Ebay transactions.

Wow! Glad to know I'm not the only one! Once, I found this ratchet, I forget what the maker was, but it was one of those that would ratchet when you would turn the handle, as well as normal ratcheting action. I know Stanley makes one, but this one was different, because it had an additional way to operate it. You could add another ratchet to the end of the handle to turn it that way if you needed more torque than a hand tightening. Kinda' hard to explain. Anyway, I noticed that there were no bids on it and it was only at a couple bucks, so I popped in a $55 bid and someone outbid me at the last minute. Now I can't find another one like it anywhere. Sure wish I would have bid more!

All the time. You just have to be wary of shipping costs.

You have to be wary of more than that. Things I have bought resembled a pig with lipstick. For instance, I bought a Portaband off the flea and paid good money for it because they are expensive new. The description made it sound like only grandma used it in odd numbered years only for a weekend. In fact it probably lived in a plumber's truck for 10 years and got used by every employee on the job 6 days a week.

Well, it cleaned up good. That's what the pics showed anyway.

Have definitely sourced many tools off the eBay, and have used eBay many times to help define prices for other stuff I'm selling (Boy Scout memorabilia, beer co. adverts, etc.) It's a great way to kill an evening. :shocking:

So its all you guys who keep outbidding me? HAHAHA

Gotta watch the sellers - some *** is constantly selling Snap On for $10.00 more than the catalog price. WTF?

I watch nearly daily for the tools I'm interested in acquiring, and willing to pass on those tools when the frenzy hits. Always another auction.

I buy something almost weekly from that dam place. Ebay gives everyone the chance to find some real unique stuff you just can't find otherwise. I collect sports memorabilia, cool snap on ****, Hess trucks, and some othe misc ****. Ebay always has my fix. Tools included!

I must confess in the last month or so I have bought 8 Snap-on ratchets of varying sizes and types. Do I have a problem?

Rarely buy. I frequently sell tools on ebay that I pick up cheap at estate sales, etc. in order to support my old tool addiction, I mean hobby.

You can buy tools on eBay?

Har har!

You need three things:

1. Patience. There will always be another ______ offered eventually.

2. Reading skills. Check the shipping price, read the text. I rarely buy from folks who don't offer inspections / returns.

3. Critical thinking. If the pics are blurry, or don't show a view from a particular angle, it might be intentional.

I've bought a fair amount of tools off of eBay. I actually just got a SK tool in today that I bought used. I've had good experience with it. Everything I bought was still in good condition and was at a good price. I've purchased 3/8 Matco breaker bar and a few Snap On items. I also bought an older 1/4 SK set. Nothing has ever been anything fake or ripped off. It's all been legit. Its been a good experience for me. I haven't had bad luck with Craigslist either.

For used tools, if I can wait and am having trouble locating locally or am filling out a set and need single(s) of something

I spend too much $$$ otherwise

I've bought some tools there over the years. I only typically buy items on eBay if they aren't made stateside anymore and or for certain catalogs these days. Just wish some sellers would take the time not to take grainy images.

Similar to Magicrat, I much rather buy from Harry J Epstein's first and foremost. Deals are great, but ultimately buying those vintage USA made tools doesn't help modern American manufacturing. That and most of these items need to be cleaned up, which is fun to a point.

Yes, for immediate needs but G-sales are more fun, much cheaper and you know what you're getting if you have the time and desire.

Some of this **** on Ebay is higher then MSRP. You need to do your homework.

I bought a set of I think 28 total 6 point Craftsman USA combo SAE & metric combo wrenches for under $100 shipped a few months ago..... where else but Ebay would you find them fast easy and that inexpensive? It is the best place for selling take-off Harley parts hands down and hard to beat for finding parts for old equipment of all kinds.

Craigslist is an online leper colony as far as I'm concerned. I've bought and sold everything from ladders to tractors to tool boxes to air compressors to snowblowers and a few cars through it, but it has more flakes than Kellogg's. I really mostly only find and buy big, hard to ship stuff there, mostly vintage table saws and such that I part out on Ebay to fund my tool buying habit.

My Ebay habit goes all the way back to 1998.

All of the time. I gave up on yard sales (or at least driving out to yard sales, I still may stop at them if I drive by one while doing something else) as by the time I figured in my mileage and time they are rarely worth it. With eBay I can just do it from my home and the little extra I pay is well worth the convenience.

I notice you're new. If you're really just my wife, hiding behind a new screen name and trying to pull out more info, I'm not playing!! :lol_hitti

But seriously, all the time...
