I was thinking about putting in a urinal in my commercial building. About 98% of the time its just guys taking a wizz. The cost of city water/sewer is fairly high here, a urinal could cut my quarterly bill down quite a lot.
Is there any certain type that would work better than the other? I noticed some say they are a tank or tank less.

My friends garage has a funnel with a hose on the end going though a hole in the wall. So I guess you could say it's a urinal.

My dad took an old funnel about 10" across and screwed it zipper
high in the back corner of his shop, he attached a length of hose
to that ran through the back wall and into a hole he dug and filled
with gravel then covered that with dirt.
He kept a gallon jug of water sitting on a shelf above it so it was
easy to "flush" once in a while.
It worked great.
When I built my detached garage he suggested I put one in too,
but my property and all the neighbors property is so heavily
wooded I can just step outside and let it fly, unless you were standing
in front of my within 20 feet you wouldn't know what I was doing.
I love living in the country.

For all the people making snappy remarks...

I was thinking about putting in a urinal in my commercial building.

You may want to consider simply replacing the toilet with a low flow model, I suspect the payback on installing even a low flow urinal will be pretty long.

I did that at home, (replaced two 5 gallon flush toilets with the 1.8? gal models).
My return on that was about one year.

Don't forget the cost of ripping out the wall and adding all the necessary plumbing to make the thing work.

Unless you have exposed plumbing in the head in the garage it will take removing a section of wall and plumbing both the fresh water line and the drain line and that may be a bigger pain than doing the actual plumbing.

Mine is a private corner of the shrub/flower garden out back of the shop. With the amount of rain we get - never a problem.

I do, but my garage was built as a 5th livable space in this house, and then a garage door was installed...instead of a wall.

So the "room" is fully plumbed, and vented for a bathroom/ shower and toilet and sink all stubbed in and ready to go on one wall / floor. I installed a toilet with a simple flip up wood cover.. to look at it you would think is a box set between some storage shelves .. but the hinged cover which is the front and top of the "box" fold up and back revealing the commode.

Just dont let folks stack part on the box...

I built a 30x35 and just finished with the painter. Upon sneaking in the floor drains I made provisions for a sinks and urinals. I can wait to install the urinal as ******* outside in -15 weather gets old.

I have a typical wall urinal in my garage. We are on septic so no when the garage was built it was not a big deal to tie it into the existing system. The real reason I wanted to buy the house is because the garage has urinal, sink, fridge, heat/ac and cable. It has been an average of 12 degrees this month but the garage stays at 68 which makes it easier to work... and pee.

My plan is to use a piece of 3" PVC pipe necked down to go through the wall and have a slip fit cap for it. The deer piss out there so can I.

Those waterless are really nice. No smell whatsoever.

Ok so I brought up the waterless urinal in post #3 and got no comments, I also posted a link to an article on them. I'm really thinking about putting one of these in, anyone else have experience with them?

I don't have any personal experience but i have heard that waterless urinals clog extremely easy since no flushing is involved.

They use them in high usage places here, like stores and rest stops.

There is no odor and there is a screen for debris, so they don't clog as long as you clean the screen or change the cartridge for the cartridge types.

They use oil as a method to cover the urine in the trap. Once in a while the oil needs replenishing.

They still require a drain but no water supply.

They are more expensive than standard urinals.

If they aren't taken care of RELIGIOUSLY they will start to stink, and when urine starts to stink it can get nauseating.

I stopped at the new LLBean store at the Mall of America just to look around. Stopped to use the restroom and they happen to have a few waterless in there. I stepped up to use one and the smell nearly knocked me on my ***. And this was only after one month of being open. i have seen other places where the smell was less pungent but I have always gotten at least a hint of urine smell whenever using one.

What are you doing to make it not stink?:dunno:

We have waterless urinals at a couple of bathrooms at work and ours stink. Perhaps the janitor is doing something wrong.

About 7 years ago Kohler put two tractor trailor sized courtesy bathrooms to showcase thier waterless flush toilets between the main buildings at the eaa airshow in Oshkosh. After a few days they stunk so bad that no one would even go near the things.

Are thier any special chemicals or cleaners that you use to make yours not stink?

I am planning on putting one in. My uncle gave me the unit and had it stored in a shed. Somehow it got broken. But for now I just pee in the yard.

How do you get rid of all the yellow grass?

I never had the yellow grass problem, other than with our female dogs. It's mostly because the female dog squats and all the urine is concentrated in one spot. Try writing your name on the lawn and maybe it will spread it around so it isn't all concentrated in one spot.

If that don't work you can tell people that having your name burnt in the grass is a new art trend.:lol_hitti

Fruit juice bottle with a wide neck and pour it under the hedge when I next go outside. It's just for those emergency "It's raining and I can't be bothered to go across the yard, take my boots off and go inside for a piss and then put my boots back on, back across the yard in the rain" moments.

I buy the urinal "mints" at a local restaurant supply store. Each time I change it I write the name of a coworker or someone else I dislike. Every time I piss on it I have a nice chuckle and it makes life just that much better.
