Are those tips ceramic?
Steel is gonna wear out pretty fast, a little slower if hardened but still pretty fast.
Most tips are ceramic or carbide. Ceramic can be machined, I did for years, use a lathe running at slow rpm's (hit or miss sometimes) and use a DEAD SHARP carbide or a diamond toolbit. You can use HSS drills for the thru hole but they will dull pretty fast. Ceramic doesn't like a lot of force applied on it, thinner walled pieces have a tendency to fracture pretty fast.
Carbide is a biatch to work, grinding with a diamond wheel or turn with a diamond toolbit. To me it would be too much effort.
There is a machineable carbide/steel called Fero Tic that gives you the machineability of steel and when hardened it's just like carbide.
You can try and reduce your grit feed or air pressure to see if you can get a little more life from your tips.
