I'm replacing a lug, with a lug....an actual UL Lug...
you said you are going to drill out the rivet and replace it with a bolt. thats modifying the bus bar. doesnt matter that youre using an NRTL listed part. hell that part may not even be listed for that panel

how about posting some pics to show us whats going on.

he did. then switched it to a lug
After Mike suggested and gave me a link to a lug, which will work.

And no you cannot get a lug "for" that box. Yea it is a modification....but i don't care lol. You guys would be screwed in a 3rd world country without your new stuff, codes, and UL listings.

And furthermore there is no need to post a picture. I have a workable solution, that is as safe as the entire situation will permit and I am moving forward with that. Thanks.

I also showed a picture of a similar fuse box, and pointed out the lug...

Is this your house?

A friends?

Are you performing electrical work as a contractor?

3rd world countries make things "work" all the time. Historically they've also had issues, and part of being in the US is codes and standards (mostly) based around life safety.

3rd world country no, 3rd world situation in rural WV, Yes. If you or anyone in this thread would like to donate 2-3k to help them, please feel free, and we will install a new service.

Also what are you proposing they do in the meantime waiting on the power company, with no electricity?

Get freaking real...

I really don't understand where your attitude is coming from, but I sure hope performing unlicensed electrical work doesn't night you (or your customers) in the ***.

Around here an electrician (or sometimes the homeowner) can call for an emergency disconnect and they'll cut/remove power within 24hrs so you can repair and issue.

BTW, wood stoves are supposed to be professionally installed too...

A licensed electrician wouldn't touch this mess and for good reason.

A licensed electrician would have to rewire the entire house. A house that has a flooded basement, rats, fleas, other critters etc living with the owner.

doing subpar work on someone else's house as a paid licensed, unlicensed, or volunteer contractor opens you up to huge amounts of liability especially in old panels like this.

do it right or dont touch it.

and as far as temp power goes while waiting on the PoCo, get a generator

May be more to this tale

Post in thread '6kW Electric Garage Ceiling heater blowing fuses' https://www.garagejournal.com/forum...ing-heater-blowing-fuses.552926/post-11431973
So wtf if there is??? It doesn't change a damn thing.

Like I said choice A, burn kerosene with fumes and fire hazard that is, or B patch up this box to keep the heater running.

And quite frankly its none of your damn business. I asked about a lug, one question and rather answer no it is not compatible, the coversation involved into this. Bringing your know it all attitude with it. Like I said before, I know what is being done is a patch not a fix.

Put your money where your mouth is, Ill send you my paypal, and fix it right, or you can have a big tall glass of stfu.

You posted on a forum, involving others, if you didn't want it to be anyone's business you should have kept this all you yourself.

Your story and the details keep evolving, the excuses for why it can't be done keep changing.

It looks like you are overloading a panel/service in a neglected home and are unable or unwilling to fix it properly and are looking for piecemeal advice on how to hack this together. There's probably an acceptable temp fix but you likely won't get good advice unless you give all the details of what's going on and a pic of the panel.

Telling me to shut the **** up because you haven't given all the information, or don't like the reality of the responses?

Good luck, hope you don't burn any of these houses down.

I'm accepting that liability, it's risk mitigation. I feel like the risk with a lug bolted to a busbar, in place of an existing lug is the least risky thing that can be done. They know the risk, I know the risk, but I also know that elderly folks dealing with kerosene isn't a good fix either.

We could do nothing, and they could die in a kerosene fire, CO poisoning, or freeze to death...right would be rewiring the entire house.

Run a generator for month? Do you have the money to pay for it?

Do you suggest I hook it to the panel? Or run 100' extension cords through the house?
