I have the 401k6 chisel/cutter set. Quite nice paired with the 401k Thor. Any chance there are some complementary punch type bits coming down the line?

If it’s going to be forever and a day before they appear, I may pick up the Olsa sets (which appear to either be made by Astro or are a perfect knock off).

Perfect and uses 2-3 drive sizes in a set do not belong together. They said end of April at SEMA

I got the 3/8 nano ratchet last week. I didn't even know it existed and never even thought about using a 17mm ratcheting wrench with the nano sockets I bought a few years ago.

Anyway I pulled it out for a brake job this weekend and wow - it works great. Funny how stuff like that can make a nasty job just a little bit easier.

Not really a big deal. I have other things to worry about.

It’s obvious as to what the drive size is before even picking one of them up. I don’t know why that would be a deal breaker for someone.

What's special about the "Razor" wrenches. Look like run of the mill ratcheting wrenches to me. My view on ratcheting wrenches is that if it's not reversible throw it away.

Mainly this:

Plus the open end is slim too, so you get two useful features out of one wrench. I wouldn’t necessarily buy them but I was curious what they were selling for.

Anybody try the Astro Goliath Impact Extensions yet? They look burly; looking for feedback on their effectiveness to transfer more torque to the bolt head.

I've been thinking about it. They're on Amazon now.

Hopefully they show up on TTC soon and we can get an idea of how much torque they actually save (if any) vs more traditional extensions.

Nope. They look too heavy for me. I think their mass would work with air impacts but, I'm not sure about cordless impacts. :dunno:

It's not the mass; the point is the larger diameter. Torsional deflection on a solid round bar is based on the torque applied, and then the length, material, diameter. Assume all is constant except for the diameter that we increase. The torsional deflection formula contains a variable called J, the polar moment of inertia, which, in turn, contains the diameter ^4 , or D^4. Since it's to the fourth power, a small increase in diameter makes a huge change in reducing the deflection and helps to increase the torque transfer under an impacting force- because the deflection of the bar absorbs the impacting torque from being transferred to the fastener.

Just making up numbers, let's assume the two ODs for a round bar
.6^4= .13
.7^4=.24

But you're only going to get a small fraction of that gain in torque transfer. This is why the torque limiting extensions typically used on lug nuts are necked down- so they function as a torsion spring and absorb the torque transfer.

You can play with the formula here

I actually suggested this as a product in some sort of thread a year or so ago. The only thing about this set is that I would've skipped the shorter sizes and just had longer ones- like 12, 18, 24", or something like that.

My headache had just about gone away until I read that! Great information but not light reading before bed for sure.

I just got in my 1/2 nano socket ratchet wrench. The limpness in the flex is far beyond acceptable. Is there an easy way to stiffen it or should I just send it back?

Please Astro, tell me these exist? I would love to buy the whole set! I find most wrenches are slightly too thick for many of my jobs. Even if they were 75% of normal thickness I would buy a set.

You know you can go to their site and it's under the "new products from Astro" bit right on the home page.

Of course they “exist” in some sense but it doesn’t seem like they have made it to market. At least I can’t find them for sale anywhere.

That's normal, a new release on the website can lag 4+ weeks before it's commonly available. Sometimes Summit or JDTCO will let you back/pre-order. Goliath extensions are the newest item on that page I can readily find. Drive adapter sets aren't easily found in stock with a 10second Google search.

Astro is probably less ridiculous about this than a lot of brands who will prime something 6 months away on social media.

We basically make an item live on our site the week we're going to be in stock which is also around when we announce it to our warehouse customers. Tool warehouses and retailers like to see a page about the item or to be able to send to their large customers, so we make that info available to them which will typically be around when they are 1st ordering which means they dont have stock yet, but should soon.

Took my 1/4 drive Nano sockets and ratchet for a test run with an oil cooler job on family member's Aveo and they worked a treat. There were a few times where a shorter ratchet would have been great and I'm wondering if you guys were considering a shorter ratchet for the 1/4 sockets? Something in the 5-6" range, more in line with a traditional 1/4 drive ratchet length.

Also just an FYI, the 1/4 drive Nano's fit perfectly in Hansen socket trays.

If you can't buy it whole and the need was there, many tools come out of the same (or similar) production facilities and there may be other handles of other lengths, from other flex ratchets/breakers, that would fit if one felt like experimenting. FYI, just me tinkering with all my excess junk in the shop.
