Atomizer - DIY Air Cans

Does such a beat exists...
Are there bottles where I can put my own liquids in and put compressed air via the compressor, etc ---- vis a vis diy spray cans.

I've got hand sprayer bottles...just wasn't sure if they had cans where I can pump in compressed air to make my own sprayers.

If I recall, I have seen larger setups that look like insectide sprayers 2-3 gallon sizes that did this

Harbor Freight has an aluminum one for around $9. I bought one 2-3 years ago and still works great. I have solvent in it and use it all the time.

Sureshots are best thing since a pull top can. Just be careful what you put in them. I have a couple at work for brake clean. The sprayers are rebuildable too.

correct. All the guys at the shop have em for brake clean. they also make great flame throwers

surprisingly durable also. They tend to be the first thing that gets thrown when someone gets frustrated. rebuild kits are around $15

For large scale degreasing I keep a one gallon pump type yard sprayer full of simple green. Some even have a pivotable atomizer head which is great for engine cleaning.

The sureshot is nice, but at $50-60 for one vs $9 for a Harbor Freight one... hmmm.

Look in the catalog, it's a white can with an eagle on it. I don't know what they call it and can't find it on the web page.

The best use I've found for the Sure Shot is filling small gearboxes in those hard to reach places where a funnel just won't fit. If you remove the spray nozzle, those male threads are 3/8 - 24. I added an adapter & 2' clear vinyl hose from there.

Grate idea I've wondered about that but never could figer out how to attach a hose grate idea.

What Sure Shot are you using that can push gear oil through it?? I just use a bucket pump for filling diffs and transmissions.

Anyway, I have the sure shot atomizer. I bought it for bulk brake cleaner. But either I'm using it wrong or it isn't quite what I was hoping for.

I wanted the super powerful shot like a can of areosol brake cleaner. I have the "stream" nozzle on it and even pressured to 135 psi (max for my compressor) it just doesn't have the powerful stream I wanted.

Any suggestions welcome. It will accept 200 psi but I don't have a method of delivering 200 psi.

Something is wrong then, and I cringe hearing you pumped it to 135 psi...

I use an old one that's my buddies and at 40-60 psi it's almost too powerful, like shoots ten feet and gets brakleen on everything. I've never filled it anywhere near 100psi.

For the intended products I wanted to use it for...I have sure shots just collecting dust as the viscosity was too much for the cans itself...

remove the tip and take the the little bronze atomizer out of it.
Its a little do dad that spins inside of the nozzle and creates the mist. With it removed, the spray will be more like a stream.

if thats still not enough for you, you can drill the hole out a little larger, but I dont recommend it unless you like refilling it every 10 seconds

I couldn't find anything at HF with the refillable paint can.

I have a couple of those atomizers, but I haven't tried them yet. I thought they might be handy for undercoating.

theres no way you are going to get undercoating through those atomizers. Its just too thick

I found that after filling, it would spray fine for a few seconds, and then start to get low on pressure. It needed to be refilled with air very often, and as a result, it was impossible to put down a nice coat of paint because the pressure was varying all the time.

That has a lot to do with how full you have it for the liquid, fill it maybe half full instead if to the top, and that gives you an "air reservoir" that will last longer.

I have the same problem on my portable pressurized water tank I take camping if I overfill it. There has to be enough of an air pocket to get the job done and last.

I don't think these things were made for laying down a show quality coat of paint. They are meant for things like wd-40, brakecleaner, etc.

I still want to check out the Harbor Freight units for comparison but has anybody tried the Preval brand sprayers? They work well for paint because you can throw them away when you are done, so no mess. I just sprayed some epoxy primer on my MGB project with one and was pretty stoked at how well it worked. For some reason the price varies a lot depending on where you buy them but I found that Home Depot and Advance Auto Parts are the least expensive at about five dollars.
