attempted: free socket thread--struck down- why?

For those who struck it down or flagged it as spam- why?:dunno:

For those who didn't , I wanted a way to list all my misc sockets to give away to those missing a socket here and there. Yep. Freebies. Had member and moderator feedback and rules etc. (no pics, PM only, format for posting etc).

Anyone else think it would be a good idea to help members out instead of trying to make $3 off every single misc socket?

The idea was to list mine, then have others list those they would be willing to part with.
The entire threat would be searchable, to help those missing a socket locate a replacement among the community.

For those who flagged, please don't be shy: I would like to know what was suspect before I put the time into it again!

I believe so... you would know it if you did indeed see it. Highly formatted, highly detailed, and quite clean looking- not your typical spam.

Was that just the wrong location?

It was posted in General Tool Discussion and I can say some posts following what you posted looked to be spam. Now that means your post may have been deleted  as spam or with spam so I can not answer to you 100%.

May I suggest you try again but post it in the classifieds so people wanting what you have can only PM you. Make sure you post the items as freebies + freight and be clear on your intentions as to how you are to give them away. I hope I have helped you. ;)

I get it. I see perhaps why it was so easily spammed. Best to have a post on its own and deal with what you have to give away and then if any one else wants to do the same and follow suit then let them start a post of their own listing what they have. Your post was in the wrong section and sort of broke the classified rules of the forum. I am sure all that will help you.

I only saw my posts 1: rules, 2: suggestions consolidated 3: first offerings/format example

YES. Very helpful!

I wanted to get something going...not just a single thread for me..but something where people could give back. My original idea was for freight coverage not to be mandatory but I think your suggestion of "free+freight" will simplify things in the guidelines I had.

Thanks!

So now, who has suggestions for me to implement when I try to get this going again? Rather have them here than clogging up the next attempt.

So far ideas for rules were:

No pics
No replies- PM only
1 post per user: just update it as you go
No "wanted" posts

Strict format :

Brand + Part# + Drive Size + Socket size + # of points + Depth + chrome/impact

There were more but I will have to think of them all again:lol_hitti

10-4. Consolidated Free Socket Thread isn't going to work.

This thread can be closed.

Thanks all

It could work as a consolidated thread. It's just a matter of the power-that-be agreeing on the approach.

For my part, I thought the original idea had merit.

I would not drop the idea I can see it would work just not as you expected.

Bull, care to add how it could be consolidated ?

I think his original plan could work as a sticky in the General Tools section. Ryan might not like that, I don't know. The sockets aren't being sold, it's more of a "help us help each other" type deal.

Amended: I am willing to give it another go if that is the consensus:

As mentioned in classifieds it can't work because of the inability for others to add to it.
As I think about it, I think I remember putting it in general tool discussion because I realized no-one could respond in classifies

General Tool Discussion as a possibly sticky appears to be the best place

Mods- can anybody copy/paste the text/formatting to a PM or something? (Thats where the time came in)

I can revive the original post and sticky it in General Tools if I get some other mod/admin support that it's ok. HOTFR8, how many of us do you think need to say "ok" before we do it?

^^If that happens, I'll modify the original text and reference this thread as prior consent/approval/discussion. Perhaps discussion of the thread can be limited to this thread to keep the other usable.

Might edit some of my original text to include several of the recent suggestions which are MUCH appreciated!

Well if Ryan is OK with the changes we have talked about I say go for it.

Personaly I would think it would be better in the classified section with PM's as a response only as it would make it better to deal with any disagreements and disputes etc. Still trial it as suggested and if it does not work it is then shut.

 Ryan is the one who will have the final say in all this.

How about posting in the **HOT DEALS** section. Not an exact fit, but would allow others to add new posts and wouldn't need to have prices like in the "Classifieds".

The powers to be had the forsale rules so mucked up you did not know what was sold. They wanted everything to be on one bost and have you go back and add to it. All the comments and buys were posted and there was no way to remove them and it was one big pain in the toe to figure out what was going on.

Just more heads that think they know how to do things that were cluless control freeks without a clue.

The up load features don't work for most people. This site kicks you off when posting and you need to start over. The site is a mess!!!!!

Not to be able to give something away without a hastle is just plain ignorant. It does not need a seperate listing but it is a great Idea. I have given away tools and paid the shiping on them. I just do it.

Don't get me started this sight is run like big governemt. It gets in the way of progress.

Sounds like you have an issue  As for kicking you off well it must be because you do not use the site and ticking keep me logged on etc.

A few of us have been positive about this topic and want to see it work so your negative comments do not help us or for that matter you.

Coming from another Aussie I have ask what is eating you ? Why not help us get this give away post going instead of being negative.

I'm new and I can tell you that your rant is doing more harm to progress than the "clueless control freaks"

Having the thread struck down has actually garnished the idea a great deal of exposure, fantastic recommendations, and in the end will deliver a cleaner, better placed thread that will work.

I didn't like having my idea trashed but I swallowed my pride and put it out there for debate.

I didn't blame the people that ran the site because THEY DIDN"T REMOVE IT! It was auto deleted as spam by users. 10 in an hour to be exact.

It seems to me that the people that run the site are actually working FOR the idea, so that USERS don't get it struck down.

If you notice, this thread was started to ask the users who flagged it down, why.

You've been here since August? Two months? And after that sixty-day period you are wound-up about rule changes that are more than two months old? :headscrat

Get your facts straight. Before Ryan made the changes to the classifieds section, he started a thread and asked for input from members. The majority who responded wanted the change.

I personally don't like it, but that's not the point.

I just went back and looked at the poll results: 88% in favor of getting rid of comments, 12% in favor of keeping the old system. 493 total votes.

Darn democracy!

Also, I realize this is in the early stages, so I am not opposed to improving it. I'm ok with continuing the discussion and making changes to the rules as we go along as long as majority/mod/admin desire the changes. I've already edited the text to reflect some of the suggestions made.

I deleted the two false-spam replies. I should have done that when I revived the thread.
