Maybe I'm missing something here, why can't you just staple the baffle to the underside of the plywood? Just cram it in there it doesn't matter if one little corner is smooshed, if that doesn't work and you want to notch it just grab a jigsaw and cut the whole stack at the same time

If I'm seeing the picture correctly, the upper ends of those angled 2x6 are sandwiched between the 2x12 and attached with one nail? If so, they do almost nothing structurally.

As far as baffles go, I agree this is being way overthought. Baffles don't have to cover every square inch of the underside of the roof and be airtight around framing members. Get whatever foam vent roughly fits the opening - as suggested, 16" if your openings are 24" wide - cut around the protruding 2x6, staple to roof and be done with it.

What's going to be tougher is getting a good tight fit around the 2x6 with your insulation. I guess they are there to hold down the trusses? Better to cut them off and use hurricane clips.

No I dont think the pictures are showing all of the nails very clearly (including the ones in the 2x12's)

This barn has been here for 16 years and it is perfectly fine. There are many others around here constructed the same way for 20-30 years and more with no problems. I have 0 concern for the structure or roof on this building.

Is it critical that the baffles vent to a ridge vent? What about only soffit vents?

The baffles are to provide airflow from the soffit vent to the ridge. I'm going to blow in insulation in the attic and the baffles will prevent the insulation from filling in and blocking the soffit vents.

I've already decided i'm going to get those plastic vents on the last page and just cut them to fit.

Soffit vents let air in, but you need some way for the air to escape. So a ridge vent or gable vent is installed up high to allow air (and moisture) to escape. The baffles need to reach high enough up the ceiling to exceed the height of the insulation but don't need to go all the way to the ridgeline.
