I have a bedroom / office in the attic that needs ac. There are knee walls on three sides.
Has any one Installed a unit ( like hotel) that doesn’t need a condenser outside ? I can run a water drip line through Eves in roof soffit
I have tried a roll around unit.
To loud.

I’ve seen these units. Will this work ?

As someone who has had to service a LOT of PTACs, I would advise against on for your home. They're only a teeny bit better than a window or through wall unit, just as noisy, a PITA to servce and they all eventually rust out.

Why not just make a box on part of the sloped ceiling to accommodate a minisplit? I don't recall any requirement for a vertical wall to be below the head. If you have the height you can make it its own straight wall section.

Any reason to not go with a mini split? Some reason you can not have and outdoor unit?

Put a floor mounted mini split in, they literally make a unit specifically for problems like these. These type units mount on the wall a couple inches above the floor line. Seems like it would solve all your problems without the introduction of future ones.

I just installed a floor mount mini split in my loft. Works great! You can see it under the window.

FYI -- most floor units allow for partial recess mount.

There was a contractor around my beach place who regularly fully recessed them -- he built concrete formed houses. They would sit so the top were at the foundation top -- along the first floor window sill height

I am still wondering if there is some other reason the OP does not want a mini split.

I guy I used to work with put a mini split in his upstairs with 2 foot knee walls. He bought a standard high wall unit and mounted it on the knee wall and he told me it was working fine.

Now the problem with a high wall unit is they blow the cold air out the bottom of the unit. Like other posts, manufacturers do build floor console units where the blow the cold air out the top. Perfect for this situation.

same situation...I have had a 15k PTAC installed for 16 years now.
Not loud, no problems. Heat and cool with the same unit...great.

Try PTAC4Less in TN. good pricing on warranted reconditioned units.
