I've been trying to get my garage organized again and to the point to where it can actually function as a garage and not a "hey, let's just throw this here for now" area. It's a typical "2" aka 1.5 car garage in the midwest.
Old photo, it functioned decently but looked terrible

a few years ago, better organized, but just too much stuff. That whole shelf of containers is all my camping gear

what I started with today

This side just has a ton of random stuff. some of my misc stuff and a lot of my mom's stuff

"My" side of the garage, I just recently rearranged the shelving and built the workbench. Notice my air hose reel and the fan. I plan on running 115 line in a conduit next to my 220 conduit and then across behind the toolbox for my air compressor

My camping containers are now in the back corner, I need to go through them and get rid of stuff I don't need/use anymore. The old coleman cabinet has misc specialty tool cases and the shelf underneath it has an old home surround receiver for the speakers I'm starting to hang

The back corner definitely needs some attention

The lighting, I can't believe I survived so many years with just the opener light and a single light bulb in the center. I need to finish mudding/taping/painting the ceiling, finish rocking over the door, and build a door for the attic access

I figured posting here might help me get my **** in gear to finish the garage before the new toy comes home

Welcome to GJ!

Please add your location to your info.

You have a nice size garage. Do you have a shed to use for all the storage functions that the garage is filling? You could get a lot of stuff out of there with one.

I've got a new 10x12 in the backyard, once I finish getting all my tools off my new workbench and back into my toolbox I'm going to tackle re organizing the shed

I plan to build onto the shed to add space to keep my mowers and the camper shell for my truck

I need to find a space to put this, It might end up staying in the shed, I'm almost out of floor space in the garage. We have a stairwell going into the basement on the back wall, it's convenient, but I don't like how I lost a few feet of length because of it

Inside of the shed, it's gotten a little worse than this, add in misc coolers, materials for my smoker project, and a bunch of spare pieces of wood. That blue toolbox is going to get put on CL, I bought it when I was living out of town and needed something small. Now that I'm home it just takes up space

I may end up moving the wire shelves into the shed and putting all my camping gear in there. Then I wouldn't be tracking a path in the yard all the time. I'm effectively trying to pack 10lbs of junk into a 5lbs bag and I hate it. But it's what I have for now until I can get a property out south and build a shop

I made some progress today
I can see the floor again! lol

I put a cover on my 220 plug, the company that I had rewire the garage just left it hanging out. They also never put in the extra wall outlets like I wanted so I picked up some boxes today

This switch will control the lights I'm putting in the stairway to the basement. The two switches on the far wall control the ceiling outlets(where my lights are plugged in) and the driveway light. The electrical company botched the wiring, I wanted a constant power outlet in the ceiling for the garage door opener. After a few days of the opener randomly not working I figured out the problem. They tapped into the switched line for the driveway light for the opener outlet and for the outlet on the wall next to the bike. For now we just live with it but it's frustrating

And the switch on the garage wall of the basement for lights. Going to change out the single box for a double and run it so the new switches both control the stairwell lights

I wouldn't mind having that Schlitz case, you don't see anything like that on the West Coast. Personally, I would move the workbench and all essential tools to the garage and use the shed strickly for storage. I think the add on to the shed's a good idea too. What about the basement, can you use it for storage as well? With all the projects you've got going on I think I would focus on making the garage a workshop.

I honestly don't even remember where the Schlitz case came from. I'm tempted to sell my toolbox and just get a bottom box that I can put under my bench to regain floor space. The basement is finished for the most part except for the foundation walls.
