Man eff that for a job... Hot, loud, dangerous.
I would have liked to see the finished product as well...
These are the type of videos people need to see when they complain about the price of forged tools/parts.

Awesome video. It reminds me of The U.S. Forge plant I used to do all their electrical work at. Crazy place to work while under operation, you definitely kept your eyes open in that joint.

I'm Glad I posted the videos. I laugh a little as I like everyone on here wants manufacturing to stay in the western world. But when I show people these types of videos people get a bit shocked at the working conditions.

I think it's awesome personally.

I was a drop forger at Moore Drop Forge, we made Craftsman tools, forgings for Ford, frames for Colt and a whole host of other cos. Moore was a great place to work. I was very lucky to be a employee.

I worked in an aluminum foundry for a time back in the '60's. Working around molten metal is not for the faint of heart and you definitely keep your eyes open like LXCam says. We poured into sand castings. Just used sand mixed with used crankcase oil and turned out a lot of ornamental aluminum castings. We had a standing order from all the junkyards to take their used pistons too for our raw materials.

Cool.

It would be great if you did something like a Q & A thread for all of us tool fanatics here.

What do you think? :)

OP Cool forging video. Just the skill of those guys with the tongs and the rhythm of what was that? Sand?

I remember watching a film about drop forging in university, where the top part of the form was actually dropped. They were making a crankshaft, moving the blank from form to form, each one making it closer to the final shape. I can't imagine being the sawdust dude, one mistake and you aren't ever going to be the same.

If I can help anyone out I sure would, we made all Craftsman forgings for Sears. Miller Falls, made non forged tools like saw blades and most other hand tools.
